Yeah, it is easy to be smartassed here, isn’t it? I’d not have been so glib about it in the days when I was stationed in Germany just this side of the Czech boarder. In 1982 I joined the army fresh from hight school because I expected Ronnie to start WWIII and I rather preferred the idea of dying in a tank (since my color vision is just bad enough to keep me out of helicopter flight school :( ) to dying of radiation poisoning from fallout.

Yes, that really was my decision making process. Yes. I really believed he would kill us all. Yes, I am grateful that I was wrong.

Flippant? Yes.

But that’s partially due to the fact that it is serious. People are getting killed, and the discussion among countries to actively intervene in Syria is quite serious at this stage as well. And that will lead to more people, including military personnel getting put in harm’s way as well.

And since the discussion comments way back mentioned using Norwegian and/or Swedish forces I made a lutefisk crack when someone asked for a summary. But arguably it was a somewhat accurate summary as well.
