My mom’s parents were among those people, too. Their names are listed in the Ellis Island museum archives. My paternal grandmother’s family settled in Saskatchewan, so they were also immigrants but probably missed the whole NY Harbor experience.

Dad’s family came before Ellis Island. We know when my mom’s maternal grandparents came. Her dad’s parents too but have yet to locate teh record. It’s such a moving scene to me because that really could be anyone of our story’s. My mom’s maternal grandfather wasn’t even 18 years old when he left Slovakia for here.
