HOA’s are a necessary evil. I won’t buy a house in a neighborhood that doesn’t have one. You’ve got to have something to keep people from letting their place go to shit, parking in the front yard, putting up fountains with little boys taking a leak, and generally jacking up your property values because they are either too lazy, too trashy or both. Just don’t piss off the people on the board.

Haha all the neighborhoods I want to live in are in the city. Suburban gated communities leave me clammy. If I want to paint Alice Cooper’s face on my house, I’m gonna! The HOA’s CCNRs in my parents neighborhood are insane. They go bonkers if you put the wrong kind of tile on your roof, and far from just parking in the yard, they don’t want cars in the driveway either.

But then again, I have no Joneses to keep up with, no smiling gladhands to impress, and my friends are exactly the sort of people who will drive your property values down :D
