Other than the finch food, there isn’t anything sweet around (‘ceptin’ me).

Maybe commercial finch food is coated with honey or something???

They didn’t build a nest because there was something sweet in the immediate area. They go out and forage for that. They built it there because a nesting place was most likely already started. A burrow abandoned by other critters,,,some sort of rodent
