There is a big difference between individuals who fought for the CSA out of a sincere but perhaps misguided sense of loyalty, and the cynical plantation owners and politicians who sent them to war for an inhumane ideology.

There’s also a big difference, at least to me, between remembering/celebrating/whatever family heritage and R/C/W the despicable organization they were fighting for.

I mean, my other half’s aunt and uncle in North Carolina have the rifle the great-great-grandfather, or whoever, carried in the civil war in their possession. Does that make them racist, or mean they think the south will rise again, or whatever? They turned out a lot more Obama voters in ‘08 and ‘12 than I did.
