It’s an old (for this continent) and damp city. Plus a great center of trade for several hundred years. Lots of “old” families, imported goods back in the old days compared to other cities in the South, etc.

Not to mention the entire surrounding gulf coast area. Lots of collectors, private libraries, civil war memorabilia.

Biloxi, Oxford, etc.
