1. Black Sabbath are British, hailing from Birmingham.
2. Black Sabbath is the first metal band, and their influence is felt more throughout the metal world than almost any other band. Yes, they built upon what came before them, as do all musical acts (ok just about every form of human endeavor, but I digress), but they are considered to be the first. Zeppelin have steadfastly refused this title.
