The political thing for the cyclists I agree with is to avoid being required to ride only in those lanes, and losing the right to ride on any road.

Because what we need are not just bike lanes, but more dedicated bike trails. These can be routed through narrow areas and a lot closer to houses than most roads.

But to effect that would require a bike lobby that equals the clout of the automotive lobby…
