“Reputable news organizations don’t repeatedly make unannounced corrections, full stop.”

How many people here continue to read Slate, the Washington Post, and the New Republic despite the fact that all three publications-nearly to a person-crapped the bed on the second Iraq War? I do.

I don’t think the Guardian can be FULLY trusted (no publication can be), which is why I questioned the “refused a lawyer/offered a lawyer in the 9th hour” distinction. That’s big. But again, if Miranda wasn’t offered a lawyer til the last hour & refused a translator, how does that make us safer?

The problem comes when you read it and fail to take into account the track record of sensationalism, shoddy reporting, and outright mendacity. I would not trust the Guardian’s version of what happened to Miranda farther than I could throw it, because their approach to correction is not that of an honest newspaper.
