The fearmongering only works on his hard core, and people are asking more questions now than they ever did. And more and more of what they dismissed as being ‘fake news’ is being revealed as the truth, verified by more and more stories with very reliable sourcing.

I’d argue that he is slowly wearing down the Resistance itself, but the problem for him is that the process of doing so is pissing off the fence-sitters who once argued things like “Yeah, I hate that kids are in cages, but my retirement portfolio has never looked better!” The latter group is only going to grow as we move into a period of either stagflation or outright recession.
