maybe I am sentimentalizing and nostaligicizing, but I seem to recall a time in politics when you could disagree with a person’s politics and even hate what they stood for and what they did, even dislike them as a person - but not feel compelled to hate them, belittle them, and spread malicious and unfounded lies about them just to damage them.

I lived through the 1960’s : A president assassinated, a great civil rights leader assassinated, a presidential contender assassinated, rioting in major cities, 4 little girls murdered in a bombing — another time when it was unclear whether we would survive especially with nuclear war lurking over us. There was always this darkness in our country and our politics.
