Yes, but they get it within the context of a native language that they speak and live. Much different than learning a foreign language.

I’m never sure about how to respond to such comments - with sarcasm, with pointing out that that’s what I said (or does not contradict what I said, or is already assumed in what I said) or simply ignoring them.
