Also, the coastal/urban Dems (the party’s activist base) need to quit their damn whining about how Ben Nelson and Evan Bayh and Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Manchin and Claire McCaskill aren’t liberal enough. For fuck’s sake, if they were liberal enough to please New Yorkers and Californians they wouldn’t ever have been elected in their states.

A red state Dem senator who’s only a hairsbreadth to the left of a blue state Rep like Mark Kirk… is still a vote for who’ll be majority leader, and who’ll be committee chairs. Who gets to schedule hearings and what legislation ever comes to the floor.

This is SO important and what we need to get back to. 50 state strategy is what gets this done. NO…the Democrats are not (necessarily) going to start campaigning for President in all 50 states. But putting up D candidates that can relate to the states population is critical. They won’t be uber progressive and may not be progressive at all, but the bolded above is why that doesn’t matter right now.
