Granted, but the testimony was ultimately immaterial because there was no court case. That’s the way I remember the talking heads discuss perjury back then. The false testimony had to had some effect on the outcome of the case (which didn’t happen because of the settlement).

Immaterial to who? We are not talking about a court case here, we’re talking about a candidate for one party’s nomination for president. It is material.
