Looking back, it still amazes me how folks in the 50s thought that replacing Batista with Castro would lead to a prosperous and free Cuba. But we as a country have always seemed to have a fascination with “freedom fighters”…provided they’re not opposing us.

Yep. Or the underdog. Even if we don’t study it closely. All that counts is that he or she it the underdog. 50 years later Castro is finally relinquishing his power. But that was after he spent decades oppressing anyone who opposed him and having qualities similar to American rightists such as his oppression of Cuban homosexuals all the while the cool left wing Americans were supporting him. Yep. It’s almost designed to be confusing.
