I think you’re giving the consequences inappropriate weightings. Aside from the use by the right of the ‘ethical’ oil meme as an argument against the left, the consequence of financing potentially dangerous regimes, while important in the short run, pales when compared to the problems we will face because of the unrestricted use of fossil fuels.

It has nothing to do with weighting the consequences. They are both relevant issues that have nothing to do with each other. We need to reduce sending money to regimes that don’t share values, and we should be exploring less destructive means of powering our lives. Two totally different issues. Neither is a red herring.
