Politics • Views: 23,367

I’m trying to decide whether to play Batman: Arkham City or live-blog the Iowa GOP debate.

But how can I resist the sheer spectacle of the Republican Clown Car as it pulls into Sioux City, Iowa with a full load of pandering politicians? And with questions from Fox News, no less.

I wish people would, at least, realize that the clerk in a big store did not pick the greeting, and write a letter to the manager if they must complain.

No one working as a grocery store checker is making enough money to put up with this kind of shit.

I should comment on my ongoing traumatization at having once been required to answer the phone "Good morning, March of Dimes, saving babies together, how may I help you?"

No one realized I wasn't done after "March of Dimes", so they would start to speak, then be confused. Also, many of them seemed to feel obligated to comment on the greeting, politically or personally. It was a pain.

Who is TBOMK? (I don't twit)

to the best of my knowledge. This is from wikipedia, so, well you know...

On January 9, 2009, the Department of Energy's credit committee decided unanimously that although the project "appears to have merit, there are several areas where the information presented did not thoroughly support a finding that the project is ready to be approved at this time." The committee "without prejudice" remanded the project "for further development of information."[12

Charles, Charles... They love it so much that they have to save it from those eeevul unelected, appointed-for-life activist judges. Because they know the Constitution better than the Founding Fathers did.

Then she used her speaking money to buy two of every Congressmen on earth! And then she herded them onto a boat, and then she beat the crap out of every single one!
And from that day forward any time a bunch of politicians are together in one place it's called a zoo!

And the threat just posed that Canada would send "the pipeline west" isn't an economic threat?

IF YOU DON"T BUY THIS OIL... it will still be pumped, and just sent west.

It isn't an economic threat. You are given first dibs. If you don't want the economic boost, you don't have to.

No one is saying that Canada will stop selling oil to the US if they don't take the pipeline.... That would be a threat.

re: #411 Petero1818

No it wasn't. Canada needs a market. They offered it to the US first. If the US is not interested they need to find other markets. China is the logical one. Not a threat. We have oil. We want to sell it. We would rather sell it to you. You dont want it we have to sell it elsewhere.

It also allows us to prove we can damage the environment with the worst best of them.

It has nothing to do with weighting the consequences. They are both relevant issues that have nothing to do with each other. Yet people like Ezra Levant use the ethical oil argument as a counter argument against the AGW activists. I'm hardly the first person to link the two.

It's that use of the point that I'm arguing against. It's also rather difficult to separate the development of the oil sands from the consequences of using that oil, so comparing the consequences of using the oil on the environment to the consequences of using oil from unfriendly regimes isn't unreasonable. Nor does comparing them preclude us from dealing with both situations.

In the meanwhile, get the oil from a country that doesn't hate you, isn't harming women, gays and christians. Get the oil from a country that is already your largest trading partner. Get the oil from a country that is not supporting terror.

No, you can't, because oil is fungible. The Saudi's won't care one whit, not a single fucking bit, whether we buy our oil from Canada. It won't affect the price of Saudi oil at all. The only thing that'll do that is lowering our consumption of oil.

Which is what we need to do to prevent AGW anyway.

Are you still an AGW denier, by the way?
