I’m sure you know Happy, but that blacklisting was more than actors. It was leveled at mostly screenwriters and authors. One of the most famous that I remember studying a bit about was Dalton Trumbo, author of “Johnny Got His Gun.”

I’ve always thought that was an odd fact. Actors and writers were blacklisted but producers, who had the power of life and death over scripts, were not included. The blacklist didn’t exist to stop anyone from disseminating commie propaganda, which producers could already do: It existed to punish and to make an example for the larger society.
