The problem is that people like swamprat and I feel like we’re getting the squeeze put on us and the people applying said squeeze are lefties who want to squeeze harder. We don’t like that. Standards need to be set and compromises made, but them those compromises need to be adhered to. The left would need to not push for awhile after the deal is made. And do not trust the left to not push. And so there it is: I distrust most green efforts because I see them as products of a political left that I distrust to the point of loathing.

I hear you. I really do.

I think that you need to reframe this though. Forget about the existence of lefties or righties for a minute and just look at the consequences of doing nothing.

Once, if, people with sense about economics get really real about these things, then perhaps we can do this better and more scientifically than the Lefties. But if you walk out of the debate in a humpf, well you have taken yourself out of the discussion.

The solutions need to start in what is real - as in natural, as in laws of physics. Once we understand the options we can talk about human ways to prepare that make the most sense.
