I’m at Union Station in DC a lot and there’s a statue dedicated to A Phillip Randolph, who had been doing Civil Rights work since before WWII and in fact organized the event where MLK gave the famous I Have a Dream Speech. It’s fine to discuss MLK but I get erally tired of him being used as a tool to dismiss present activists for not “doing it right” because MLK himself certainly wasn’t told he was doing it right by these same people’s ideological forefathers.

Randolph organized a march on Washington in the early 1940s to put pressure on Truman. The march didn’t happen because Truman desegregate the defense industry (Executive Order No. 8802, Fair Employment Practice in Defense Industries)
