There is a novel, Stark, by Ben Elton

it is about rich people building a Star Ark to carry them off Earth to escape the impending ecological catastrophe.

In the end, they escape, the Earth somehow manages to survive, but the rich folks?

They have no sense of the cooperation and hierarchy needed to survive on a Star Ark and eventually all perish in internecine squabbling and posturing…

Reminds me of the heartwarming moment in 2012 when the extremely powerful opened their hearts at the last minute and allowed the extremely wealthy onto the arks their money had paid for; plus some Chinese workers who actually built the damn things instead of just letting them all drown like they originally planned. In the sequel, I hope the Chinese workers kill all the parasites sitting around giving them orders.
