I’m not sure if I’m on the same page with the terminology here, but my take is that human history, so far, is the story of the linear overcoming the cyclical.

Militias are the reversion to tribalism which, in its defense, has been the evolutionary history of humans.

My take: History is neither cyclical nor linear. It is helical, spiraling around a central axis so that it loops back again and again, but always slightly off (forward or backward) from the original and never exactly the same. Make predicting the future much harder than with either other theory. Feel free to rip it to pieces. I just made it up.
