I’m not concerned with the country music. It’s the song choice. That’s not a patriotic song. It’s a song about a family that’s so torn apart by alcoholism and abuse that the mother’s only way out is to kill herself and her abusive husband by setting the house on fire.

It’s like people thinking that “Born in the USA” is a rah-rah jingoistic anthem.

People seemed to often not pay attention to lyrics, and not just in politics. I was at a wedding where, inspired by Top Gun, the groom serenaded the bride with “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”, and a Bar Mitzvah where a singer sung the Patsy Cline song “Crazy”.
