re: #62 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))
and that there was a time when most people did not choose their mates: they were selected by the family based on an advantageous social or property arrangement.
i.e.: we have three cows but only enough pasture for two. The family in the next village has a boy our daughterâs age and their cow just died. matter settled. she marries and takes the cow, we get a share of the milk.
Itâs one of those things that makes me so amused by guys like Matt, they pine for the very thing they sneer and deride in âless-civilizedâ cultures: The idea of arranged marriages and treating sex as a commodity. They will point to Muslim-majority countries and declare America âbetterâ because women can receive an education, but secretly they rage that such education in the West involves topics other than homemaking and pleasing a man. They want a return to a time when an education was viewed as âwastedâ on a woman, that she was just going to âend upâ pregnant and then her future would be spent raising children and tending the home.
