Sure it can. If people buy the deflections and evasions about the newsletters, the issue will stop there; no one will be looking into it any further. But if the deflections don’t work, and this becomes a real factor in Ron Paul’s campaign, the media will investigate and suddenly Dondero and everyone else who worked for Paul during that time will be under suspicion.

That’s a motive for dissembling.
