These are both in the range for cross quarter days- the days half way between the solstice and equinox. Because the actual time of the solstice or equinox can fall anywhere around the 24 hour day we usually associate with the equinox/solstice (a few hours before, sometime during the day, or a few hours after) could account for this discrepancy. Additionally, if you would average them from the actual time of the solstice/equinox, you would probably come out with 42 days and a few extra hours, which would make them fit fairly well as equal.
