Y’know….the rail industry’s made significant strides on ways to improve fuel efficency and lower emissions with their motive power for the last 10 years. Also consider that railways are the most fuel efficient way to haul bulk frieght (per ton-mile) and a typical boxcar can take 3-5 trucks off the road.

But watch the 0bama administration decide that that isn’t good enough and butt in with CAFE-like standards for locomotives….which by the way, will kill short-haul, reigonal and switching railroads who traditionally rely on secondhand motive power.

/He’s already promised to undercut one significant source of traffic for the railways- coal.
