I have a sneaking hunch that Jimmy’s trying to prove something to himself. I suspect he’s trying (desperately) to build a legacy — knowing, at least at a subconscious level, that his Presidency will be panned in the history books.

Maybe I’m over-thinking it, but that would explain the pathetic idiocy.

His presidency will be irrelevant in the history books. It’s already ignored.
