Carter Meets with Hezbollah’s Spiritual Leader

Middle East • Views: 3,252

It’s just Jimmy Carter again, doing what he does — monitoring elections and hugging extremist leaders.

US President Barack Obama’s speech reaching out to Muslims had strong points, Lebanon’s most influential Shi’ite cleric told former president Jimmy Carter, but people were waiting for real results.

Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah made the comments Tuesday night during a meeting at his office with Carter, who was in Lebanon to monitor last weekend’s parliamentary elections.

In his speech in Cairo on June 4, Obama promised to work aggressively to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, called for a halt to Israeli settlement construction on lands claimed by the Palestinians and spoke of the need for a Palestinian state.

Fadlallah, widely believed to have been Hizbullah’s spiritual leader in the 1980s, is a harsh critic of US policies in the Middle East, which many Arabs believe are biased toward Israel.

I posted this back during the presidential primaries, when Carter met some Ham-ass leaders. It is out of date now, but I don't have time to rewrite it:

Carter, Mashaal Announce Plan for Mideast Peace

Damascus. (CNN – Caliphate-Nazi News)

Former President Jimmy Carter and Hamas Leader Khaled Mashaal announced the final solution for Mideast peace. Hamas and Syria have agreed to recognize the state of Israel, after Carter's plan is put into motion.

The plan involves the Israeli government being taken over by the UN and the US State Department. “This is the culmination of all the years of my presidency,” the Nobel Peace Prize winner Carter said. “We all agree the problem that is preventing peace in the Mideast is that Israel is run by Jews; therefore, by replacing their government with one that is willing to understand the concerns of their neighbors, there will be peace.”

The Jews will still have rights to a homeland, but they will be concentrated in the Negev. “The Jews were able to make the desert bloom, so they should be quite comfortable in the camps that will be constructed there,” said former President Carter.

Reaction from world leaders was strong approval.

US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice said “I salute former President Carter for his effort, and look forward to my new position as Prime Minister of Israel.” She then left just as the Israeli press arrived, having been forced to enter through the back door.

Barack Obama cheered the result. “I have known for 20 years that a solution like this was needed; finally there will be peace. I have offered former President Carter the position of Secretary of State, when I win the election.” He also said that he would now go under the name B. Hussein Obama.

Hillary Clinton also praised the deal but said “I had almost negotiated this deal, while under rocket fire, but the signed papers disappeared when I went to ask Bill about a stained blue burkha that I found under the desk in the meeting tent.”

John McCain, the Republican nominee for President, said something different, showing he is out of touch with world opinion.

“The UN, the Ummah of Nations, strongly supports this peace treaty.” Secretary General Ban Ki-Moonbat also said, “We have already recognized Mahmoud Abbas as the Israeli ambassador to the UN, and he will be moving in 'as soon as the stench is gone' from the rooms formerly occupied by Jews.”

The president of Iran, Ahmadinejad, said “We welcome this development, but we will not cease in our peaceful nuclear program as long as a single Jew remains alive.”

Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, also praised the accord. “Venezuela is pleased the world has come to understand the problems of our world. We have started rounding up Venezuelan Jews to send them to the new camps in Israel.”

The Saudi Arabian government issued a statement that “In honor of these historic accords, we will call for a 'free gas' day once they are implemented. We will even give Jews free gas, but of a very special kind.”

Adolph Hitler could not be reached for comment.

Carter: No Mideast peace without Hamas

Former President Jimmy Carter Thursday reiterated that there can be no peace between Israel and the Palestinians without involving Hamas.

And since Hamas won't agree to peace unless Israel is destroyed, the next "logical" step would be to say there can't be peace in the Mideast as long as Israel exists. I'm sure Carter believes this, but won't quite come out and say it.
We shouldn't let him back in the US.

The "Geneva Plan" was something cobbled together by a bunch of Israeli leftists and some of the Arabs. It basically endorsed the Saudi plan of creating a "Palestinian" state and giving the Arabs a "right of return" to Israel proper. You know, the usual.

The usual "we can't destroy Israel militarily, so we'll come up with a "peace" plan that will destroy Israel" plan. Yes.

The man doesn't give a damn about anyone _but himself_. Therein lies the key to understanding Jimmy, along with many other America-haters and assorted creeps, is that they are so self-centered that they would sell out their own mothers for a chance to be the "next big thing". Jimmy's "next big thing" is achieving peace in the Middle East, which he knows will only happen if one side or the other is out of the picture. He has chosen to side against the Jews, and his actions make that abundantly clear.

The coming inflation, explained.

If you produce A LOT of goods and you do not increase the money supply, well then the value of the the dollars that are already existing goes up, in that those are the only dollars that can buy all the goods in the economy.

However, if you print off a ton of money, WITHOUT a proportionate increase in the amount of goods you produce in an economy, well that's MORE dollars chasing after fewer goods.

The second scenario is the one we face today.

With Our Lord Obama printing off money like there's no tomorrow; with the compensatory collapse in RGDP growth (on track to decrease by about 6% this year) we have a very simple "numerator/denominator" relationship that bodes ill for the nation;

The numerator (money supply) is going up.

While the denominator (RGDP growth) is going down.

Which will result in inflation.

Carter is the quintessential American secular, progressive, liberal. Every culture and political ideology has equal value for these people who choose to ignore such trivial distinctions as commitment to mutilation of infants, enslavement of women, suicide murder of innocents, hiding behind human shields, and a pledge to conduct genocide. Does it not seem clear that Carter is no less evil than the despicable barbarians he embraces? He deserves to be rendered irrelevant by all right thinking people, even some on the left.

When Jimmy Carter was just a doddering old guy who built Habitat for Humanity houses, I respected him.

Then when he first started monitoring elections, I respected him.

But when he revealed that he favored the most totalitarian side in every election he monitored, I not only lost all respect for him --I realized that he had always felt this way, and I had been blind.

Yeah, I've noticed that however many free houses one gives to poor people, they stay poor! Even when you build huge housing developments of brand-new apartments and let former slum residents live there for free -- the slums are re-created in the new location! Who could have possibly guessed that outcome?

Our Historically Challenged President
A list of distortions. By Victor Davis Hanson

In his speech last week in Cairo, President Obama proclaimed he was a “student of history.” But despite Barack Obama’s image as an Ivy League-educated intellectual, he lacks historical competency, in areas of both facts and interpretation.

In the recent Cairo speech, Obama’s historical allusions were even more suspect. Almost every one of his references was either misleading or incomplete. He suggested that today’s Middle East tension was fed by the legacy of European colonialism and the Cold War that had reduced nations to proxies.

This first became apparent during the presidential campaign. Candidate Obama proclaimed then that during World War II his great-uncle had helped liberate Auschwitz, and that his grandfather knew fellow American troops that had entered Auschwitz and Treblinka.

Both are impossible. The Americans didn’t free either Nazi death camp. (Regarding Obama’s great uncle’s war experience, the Obama team later said he’d meant the camp at Buchenwald.)

Much of what Obama said to thousands of Germans during his Victory Column speech in Berlin last summer was also ahistorical. He began, “I know that I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city.” He apparently forgot that for the prior eight years, the official faces of American foreign policy in Germany were Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice — both African-Americans.

In the same speech, Obama seemed to suggest that the world had come to together to save Berlin during the Airlift. In fact, it was almost an entirely American and British effort — written off by most observers as hopeless and joined by a handful of Western allies only when the lift looked like it might succeed.

But the great colonizers of the Middle East were the Ottoman Muslims, who for centuries ruled with an iron fist. The 20th-century movements of Baathism, Pan-Arabism, and Nasserism — largely homegrown totalitarian ideologies — did far more damage over the last half-century to the Middle East than did the legacy of European colonialism.

OT:

My dear old Mom forwarded me an email safety tip. Most of the time the stuff she passes along is either obvious, trivial or silly. But this one has potential.

It recommends keeping a set of your car keys on the bedside table, so in case of a panic situation you can set off the car alarm. Supposedly people will get annoyed and come check out the situation.

Where I live, car alarms don't even get a look out the window. When they go on for longer than a minute or so, people just shove in the earplugs and go back to sleep, or turn up the music.

I supposed it could be useful, but the lag time between the alarm going off and someone actually investigating to find your home has been invaded or you're lying there with a stroke could be an hour or more, depending on your neighborhood.

So I wrote back as follows:

Thanks. Once in a while these pass-it-on internet tips turn out to be something you haven't thought of before.

I also take a great deal of comfort in having a working mobile phone (for calling the police etc.), a functioning quadrupedal intruder alert (to wake me out of a too-sound sleep if someone starts to jimmy the door), and a 9-mm laser-sighted 15-round pistol (for welcoming any uninvited guests not impressed by dogs and car alarms while waiting for the police) on the bed beside me, at my feet, and under the pillows, respectively. All in all, I feel pretty safe.

My lines of defense, in proper order, are now:

Dog
Gun (at the ready when dog goes nuts)
Car alarm (noise may actually scare an intruder, though not a heart attack)
Phone (mainly for ambulance; the police will come in their own good time and take my useless statement after the perp has skedaddled, or help the ambulance boys haul him away if I've dealt with him myself)

I will fear no evil.

Man accused of urinating on people at [gay pride] festival
Jun. 11, 2009 10:02 AM
Associated Press

FERNDALE, Mich. – A 31-year-old Detroit man faces a misdemeanor assault and battery charge after allegedly urinating on several people during an annual gay pride event. The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak reported the man had been drinking and was upset that he was splashed with water aimed at street dancers Sunday during the Motor City Pride Festival.

Police Lt. William Wilson said "he may have wanted to take revenge," turned and urinated on the leg of a man standing next to him.

Obama Throws Muslim Women Under the Bus

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed how the North American mainstream media has consistently been mainstreaming the subject of Islam and veiled Muslim women as a friendly, feel-good kinda subject, nothing to be afraid of, something that may be “different” but that we are obligated to understand and accept? Specifically, the mainstream pro-feminist/pro-human rights media are arguing that Muslim women in hijab are “choosing” to face-veil themselves or to wear headscarves for religious reasons–and since North America is comprised of immigrants in search of religious freedom, such acceptance is actually part of our own tradition. We must understand that some Muslim girls and women are hurt, offended when we assume that they have been forced to veil when that might not be the case. Some Muslim girls are also quite happily attending women-only proms; they view hijab as “liberating” them from the sex object treatment reserved for uncovered women.

Hey, goes the unwritten subscript– these women are not terrorists. They are modest and kind, gentle and submissive, far more obedient than their (pesky, upstart) North American counterparts. Indeed, veiled or headscarved women can also be modern and educated–just the kind of citizens and immigrants who are, perhaps, more worthy than….your ordinary western slut.

That's because the Arabs calling themselves "Palestinians" are the only people in the history of the world to be given inheritable refugee status.

Every other group displaced by world events sucked it up and decided to build lives for themselves. The "Palestinians" instead have sat on their asses collecting welfare from the world for 3 generations, producing as many children as possible to pass along their unique inherited status to.

I think that's 4 generation now :-(

Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Obama's Cairo speech:

President Obama's speech didn’t do much for Muslim women. He defended their rights in Western countries to wear the hijab. He didn’t touch on Muslim women being confined, being forced into marriages or being victims of honor killings: These traditions and principles in the Koran and in Islam are being practiced in the West. He didn’t address that.

I think he was just appeasing the Muslim world because they perceive--they have these notions that Muslim women in Western countries--are not allowed to wear the headscarf or cover themselves. I mean you can wear whatever you want in the United States.

In Egypt where he spoke, women who do not wear their veil in public are subjected to very obscene remarks on the street and even sexual assault. Nowadays, even if they are covered they become victims of the same things: That is, in public, in Egypt, as a woman, you run 80% of the time the risk of being assaulted simply because you are a woman walking down the street. They are forced into marriages; their testimony in countries where Sharia is law is just half of that of a man. They can be divorced with no rights. They need guardians, a married guardian or they cannot sign any legal papers. The President simply did not address Sharia or Islamic law in relation to women.

Yes, and this can't be said enough. The UN, spearheaded by UNWRA, has consciously created a permanent refugee "crisis" in collusion with the Palestinians' Arab "brothers", who have done everything in their power to keep the situation simmering, including bans on "Palestinians" becoming citizens of other Arab countries.

On can only conclude that the UN has never been interested in a normal settlement of the issue.

You need a 12G pump shotgun.

Got one of those, too.

I use the Beretta 9 as first weapon of choice because 1) under two pillows I don't even know it's there; 2) with a round in the chamber all I have to do is flick the nearly silent safety off to be ready to roll; 3) it's nice to be able to keep the lights off, place the dot on somebody's chest, and say quietly, "Look at that red spot. That's where the bullet will go in two seconds if you don't put your hands up." I see well in the dark.

Since I live in the city, I keep all my weapons safely stored. I have a full-size gun safe for everything but the Beretta. When it's not under the pillow at the ready, it's in a button-combination-activated small safe under the bedside table. No one can break into my house and make off with an easy booty of firearms.

The argument handgun vs. 12-gauge is as old as dirt, and everyone settles it individually. What I'd really like is to keep using the Beretta but have a push-button recording to play a realistic sound of a 12-gauge racking a round into the chamber. Ka-chunk! That alone often sends them scurrying.

Basic kit, a 12ga for home defense, a comfortable hand gun for on the go defense, and a rifle both serious defense situations and hunting if the need to put food on table should arise.

Each tool has a different function and is best in certain situations.

At 85, George H.W. Bush plans another skydive
Jun. 9, 2009 12:22 PM
Associated Press

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine - Former President George H.W. Bush plans to celebrate his 85th birthday Friday by making a parachute jump in Maine, where he has his summer home.

Jim Appleby, a Bush aide, said Tuesday that Bush will make a tandem jump with a member of the U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute team. Their landing zone is near a church in Kennebunkport.

re: #50 Occasional Reader

Actually, before I go:

Can anyone think of ANY major world development at the moment that appears to be heading in the right direction?

Discuss.

I don't have time to discuss, but IMO the answer is, "Yes, there are some."

Unfortunately few of the positive developments involve the USA heading in the right direction.

As an American, I find that heartbreaking. As a member of the human race, I find it scary that America is becoming indifferent to its historic opportunities and responsibilities. On the other hand, it's highly probable that human progress will not grind to a permanent halt if the US collapses into stagnation or worse.

Our prospects looked bleak in the 1970s and it wasn't clear what could turn them around. I can't deny that today's future looks ominous--but I refuse to write this country off.

The only vote I have ever regretted was the first one I ever made for President in 1976, I voted for Jimmy Carter. I find the way he's behaved since leaving office, especially the last 8 years or so to be the most disgraceful ever by an ex-President. The way he has sucked up the the worst element in the Middle East to the point of effectively serving as their mouth piece at times, as well as undermining US foreign policy, makes me sick.

Compared to Jimmy Carter, every single ex-President before or since him is a towering example of dignity and class.

Didn't Jimmy certify the reelection of our good friend in Venezuela, even though he knew it was rigged? He said something to the effect of not wanting to cause a kerfuffle...

re: #271 Iron Fist

Good post, Iron Fist. Well worth an overall upding.

Nevertheless, let me point out that it was Carter who appointed Paul Volcker to head the Fed and end the 1970s inflation. And iirc someone has recently noted that the beginnings of airline & transportation deregulation took place under Carter.

My guess is that he started out with good intentions but didn't have the political toughness, astuteness and competence to implement them. After he lost to Reagan, he refused to accept that his shortcomings were the cause. It ate at him and ate at him until he went over to the dark side.

re: #47 kynna

Carter has to have seen the catastrophe and horror of Hamas rule in his beloved Palestinian territories. They were blatant. Yet he still supports them.

With Hezbollah, the MSM has continued to whitewash, but the hate and violence is still very apparent.

I just don't get him. I'd say he's just a commie anti-semite, but he's worse than that. His continued support of Hamas shows he doesn't give a damn about the Palestinians or anybody else. Bizarre old man. Hate merchant.

By everything I've read and heard, Carter never got over the fact that he was not re-elected to a second term. Nor has he ever gotten over his mad that the Israelis refused to do things his way. Apparently, he honestly believes he is ever so much smarter and more knowledgable than everyone else, and any one who rejects his advice is to be despised as too stupid to live. He simply cannot abide people and nations that do not instantly fall down and worship him. (Gee, that sounds familiar . . . doesn't it?)

re: #271 Iron Fist

I was in college in the late 60s. There was still a little of the Kennedy glow on the Democrat brand -- especially when Bobby made his run at the Presidency. But I never could wrap my head around the dreck the anti-war left was spouting. (Maybe it was because I was a history major before the history field was absorbed by the minions of the LLL.)

I remember reading in the newspaper about the mass burials of executed anti-Cong South Vietnamese found after the Tet offensive. (Which we won!) One story buried in the inside pages, never to surface again. You never heard the 3Ls talking about Viet Cong atrocities. It was always American atrocities. (That's one reason I am disgusted but never surprised by the depths of Muslim atrocities. Name it, and the Viet Cong has already done it.) And you sure as hell never heard about the killing fields of Cambodia or other Communist crimes until much, much later on.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain when actual historians started getting their paws on USSR KGB records, the numbers of Stalin's victims started coming out. But I already knew the final figure; it had been buried in page 38 news stories at least 10 years earlier. But the Left was shocked -- shocked, I tell you! -- to discover that Stalin and Co. had slaughtered 40 million of their own people.

The Left has always ignored hard facts and data that conflict with their world view. For them, these things never exist, are nothing but the lunatic ravings of hard right wingnuts.

Fadlallah, widely believed to have been Hizbullah’s spiritual leader in the 1980s, is a harsh critic of US policies in the Middle East, which many Arabs believe are biased toward Israel.

Well, many Arabs are right. Our policies in the middle east ARE biased in favor of Israel, as they should be. Perhaps when the Palestinians elect a leadership which choses not to deny the right of Israel to exist, that spends at least a portion of its money on roads, hospitals, and schools, that doesn't advocate suicide bombing and rocket attacks on innocents, etc. etc. . . .perhaps that bias will deservedly shift.

For the time being, the bias is exactly as it should be.

re: #271 Iron Fist

but by the time I was old enough to notice they were evil through and through. They were just good at hiding it.

They don't even realize it, I think. It falls true for most liberals I personally know, that they truly don't understand the long term, or indirect impact of the policies they support. They don't understand how socialism subtly undermines the incentive to excel. They don't understand how government control of a business or enterprise inevitably leads to inefficiency, waste, and less 'bang for the buck', and how that relates to government run health care. When I have tried to explain such things, I've received responses from eyes glazing over, to (my favorite) "what does government health care have to do with socialism?"

I actually stop short of calling it evil, simply because ignorance and evil are not the same. Although it could be fairly said that ignorance does lead to a great many evils.

282 Dr. Shalit  Thu, Jun 11, 2009 4:34:07pm

Unfortunately Former President Carter has the same attitude towards this fellow as he had to the Ayatollah Khomeni. He must think of him as being the Muslim Equivalent of a Congregational Minister - as he did Khomeni. Would the former President GET IT. Congregationalism in the US freed Protestant Ministers to find the way that "worked best" for their community. In the "UMMAH" - such is NOT the same. That is quite enough.
