Do you honestly think anyone here doesn’t know that? Any sentient being paying attention to the outside world knows things are far worse in many other places on the planet.

So what? The point is that we should hold ourselves to a higher standard. And that we should concern ourselves with things we can change—US policy—instead of deflecting by pointing out things we can’t change—the barbarism in much of the rest of the world.

We’re supposed to hold ourselves to a higher standard, not excuse our behavior when it fails to meet that standard by saying we’re closer to it than nations which we have no control over.
