No, that wouldn’t be smart. He’d be branded a RINO and effectively read out of the party. A Republican centrist could work, but not a Democrat.
I do agree that Ohio Republicans and Republicans more generally need to be better at creating conservative policies that can work in a city, which will mean not being phobic about commuter rail among other things.
I really don’t understand the reflexive disgust the GOP has for commuter rail, or mass transit in general. Walker killed a high speed rail proposal, IIRC. Moving people around cheaply and efficiently is good for business. It’s not just for poor people, after all.
