I’m sorry, but that’s self-contradictory. On the one hand you say the “reinstatement” should have been revoked as soon as Benedict learned of his views. On the other, you say he must have known them before the order was given.

I was unclear - I meant the reinstatement should have been canceled as soon as Williamson’s statements became news.

In which case the Pope would be guilty of “reinstating” Williamson while tacitly accepting his Holocaust denial. I find that hard to believe.

I find it harder to believe that no one involved in the decision to bring the Order of St. Pius back into the Church was aware of their extremist beliefs. As I said, their views have been well known for a long time:
