re: #871 Dragon_Lady

We all finally had agreed to not talk politics at family gatherings or it was going to split the family along party lines.

Speaking as one of the few token liberals in my largely conservative/Republican and Catholic family, I learned a long time ago to just keep my mouth shut when it came to politics. I’m always going to be outnumbered, and I’m not about to be the one to cause a huge family drama, so I tend to just smile and nod when someone goes off on a rant about something. They know I disagree politically, but they also know I’m not big on causing a scene, so I just listen politely and let them vent.

Religion is another topic I never discuss with family. I’ve been all but atheist since I was 18, but I’m not about to tell any of them that. I’ll still go to weddings and funerals, and to Christmas mass with the family when I visit. It’s just easier that way.
