Oh you know that’s just a “Progressive” plot. I went to Monticello for the first time this fall and Jefferson’s disdain for putting religion in the public sphere could not have been more blatant. I remember when we had a ballot initiative on gay marriage that George Allen actually claimed that this is what Jefferson would have wanted.

Did you know he founded the University of Virginia specifically to have a non-religious college. At that time every single college was run by some religious sect or another and had required worship. He even designed it specifically so that the library was at the center in the exact spot that other colleges put their church — the main focal point of the campus.
