Palin Snubs Repubs

Politics • Views: 2,268

Is there a little bit of friction between the RNC and Sarah Palin, perhaps? Palin stiffs the House Republicans.

ABC News’ Jonathan Karl reports: When House Republicans planned their annual winter retreat, they extended an invitation to Alaska Gov. Sara Palin, hoping the party’s 2008 vice presidential nominee would give a morale-building speech to the more than 130 Republican members of Congress gathered this weekend in Hot Springs, Va.

Retreat organizers tell ABC News that Palin politely declined, giving a perfectly understandable reason. According to the Congressional Institute, which hosted the conference, Palin said she simply could not make it to the retreat because pressing state business made it impossible for her to leave Alaska this weekend.

So where is Palin this weekend? She’s in Washington, D.C., attending the super-elite Alfalfa Dinner.

“She lied to us,” said a Republican at the retreat.

Asked why Palin told the Republicans she could not leave Alaska this weekend, Palin spokesman Bill McAllister offered this non-responsive answer:

“My understanding is that the governor has not scheduled any partisan events on her current trip to D.C.,” McAllister told ABC News.

Too many rifts in the party right now… they’ve been rudderless since the nomination of McCain.

Hopefully. Steele can pull the rival faction back into some sort of agreement on the party direction… however reluctant some may be.

The RNC is moving in the right direction but it got a ways to go before conservatives will ever support it again.

I’m reminded of Harry Potter and the Ministry of Magic- they wanted to use Harry as a poster boy. Perhaps Sarah feels that’s what the RNC wants to make of her now. Harry told the Minister off- looks like Sarah’s following his example.

I understand her being hurt, but I am hopeful that she will play a part in rebuilding the image of the RNC. Hopefully an apology will be extended to Gov. Palin, and I hope it is graciously accepted.

That said, it is never a good thing to lie like this, because when you get caught, it’s Sarah that looks bad. The proper response should have been “I am thankful for the offer, however, I’ve previously committed those dates to other activities”.

I keep writing appropriate responses for these political types. Perhaps I should author a book - Etiquette for Political Dumb-asses. Too strong?

Sarah Palin doesn’t give a snap about the Republican establishment. She ran against Alaska’s go-along-to-get-along Republican Party for governor, and they were livid when McCain tapped her for VP. Alaska Republican voters, on the other hand, love her. So who should she court? Voters or the Washington Republican establishment who have ‘gone along’ for years and abandoned the principles that gave meaning to the word ‘Republican’?

NFL relented.

Relented, what was that about?

112 SFGoth  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 4:08:30pm

The GOP lied to us too when they took their oaths of office.

re: #111 Dark_Falcon

the NFL had let the honor guard stay in the arena for the game last time. This time they stated the honor guard would go with the other volunteers into a large room and watch the game on a screen. The decision raised a lot of ire and the NFL relented in their decision.

The only good thing he has done…imho, of course, is the Black and WhiteNight concert with Roy Orbison, and friends…Jackson Browne, .J.D. Souther, Tom Waits, T. Bone Burnett, k.d. lang, Bonnie Riatt, Jennifer Warnes, Elvis Costello, etc, His guitar riffs with Burton(who is the BEST) on Go,Go. Go(Down the Line) are fantastic…

I don’t believe this story. I don’t believe they found anybody who has an ounce of credibility who says Palin “lied” to the GOP. It is the media who persistently, chronically lies about Palin. It is the media which says anything they want about Palin without the slightest regard for the truth. This is an historical truth.

Furthermore, I suspect she had this prior engagement at that dinner and then will hurry back to Alaska to prepare for the volcano. She should know she will get very little assistance from FEMA or any federal agency. The people who are running our government now are not going to pay good money to put her on television looking like she knows what she’s doing.

Furthermore, even if the story turns out to be true, it would take a better source than ABC News for me to believe it.

Sorry, Charlie.

Granted, I’ve never been a fan of Palin. She could have helped her image (with me at least) if she was honest in her response to the RNC. I.E. “I will not attend because I don’t like you/Obama’s cooler than you…[or whatever her reason was].” But out right lying about it? Makes her look like she’s not the stand-up-gal her supporters are tying to pass her off to be.

117 Eclectic Infidel  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:32:08pm

Good. Isolate herself from the one collective that can help her succeed in 2012. Well done.

118 snowgardendream  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:34:56pm

My theory is that so many Republican leaders have minimized her since the election loss (I’ve seen some on tv when asked who ignored questions about her and changed the subject), it was made known to her that her celebrity was not welcome. They act like they don’t know what’s up, but she trumped them, held her head high and found a way to snub them back. If she’s into splitting with the conservatives that have overspent and under-shined, maybe she wants to make a clean break and come back as the head of a populist Republican movement without ties to the spineless Repubs that brought us to this point.

119 offendi  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:36:42pm

Palin is the least of the Republicans problems. Obama has given us a stimulus package that will fail to stimulate, decided he can be an even broker between the muslims and the USA (?), and sent out a tired bunch of Clinton years retreads to bring peace, hope, and enlightenment in the world.

All this while the mainstream media’s greatest concern with him is what kind of dog he will get his kids.

Actually Americans are the ones that have the problem, not just Republicans.

re: #80 Outrider

A good example of a non-news story.

The media will continue to kick her around at every opportunity in an attempt to render her powerless for a 2012 run.

Although I do find her current attempt at getting a piece of the pie a little disconcerting. Money for the state over principals. Not too good.

“She lied to us” - and of course this is an anonymous quote.

There is no proof of what she said - only allegedly said.

Yeah, cause they sure as hell succeeded in 2006 and 2008, didn’t they?

123 jcbunga  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:40:16pm

Of course she did. They are failures…and if they keep acting like RINO’s and kiss The One’s ass and keep us sliding deeper into socialism, they will find themselves ignored by millions come the next election.

124 RexMundi  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:42:39pm

It’s the Republicans who should snub this moronic kook. She’s the Cato Kaelin of politics. 15 minutes was too long, and if you went to cnn.com, they were (and in some cases, still are) happy to stretch it longer and longer. They know a Palin ‘12 run would be a bigger disaster than Nibiru ‘12, even if Nibiru was real.

125 snowgardendream  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:42:52pm

And another thing, thank goodness that Alaskan volcano didn’t blow last night…I hope she’s back on Alaska soil when it does so they can’t say in her political future that while Alaskans were in danger she was partying far away. Obama can party while ice in Kentucky puts people in danger, but a Republican will always be held responsible for natural disasters whether they do or don’t blink an eye.

126 Wendya  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:48:33pm

According to adn.com:

Palin has kept a low profile on this trip. She turned down all requests for interviews, including the other invitations that indicate one’s arrival in Washington: appearances on the Sunday morning talk shows. She also didn’t attend any events that could be perceived as partisan, including the winter meeting of the Republican National Committee, also this weekend.

[Link: www.adn.com…]

The left’s obsession with her is just a little disturbing.

127 offendi  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:49:14pm

Actually people should be crapping on McCain not Palin. This crackerjack campaigner bungled and missteped his way to losing to the biggest neophyte and leftist candidate in the past 50 years ( perhaps with the exception of McGovern on the leftist part of the equation ).

Palin was a polarizing figure, more so than would have been Romney. But Big Chief Maverick picked her out. I hope Republicans are now wise to him.

And I do have a lot of sympathy for Palin. Too far, too soon.

128 Wendya  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 5:57:02pm

Palin exposed the vapidity of the elitist right and left.

129 kynna  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 7:05:22pm

The GOP has a lot to prove to me in the coming years. They didn’t support Bush in critical moments, leaving him out there to take abuse with no backup *coughKatrinacough* so I really don’t want any decent Republican politicians hobnobbing with them for the time being.

They were feckless and I despise them. That the democrat party has become nothing but a criminal enterprise is the only reason I’m voting GOP anymore. There are some out there I would be thrilled to cast a ballot for. They don’t live in my state and/or the putrid hierarchy of the party will keep them off the nationals.

Just wait ‘til I tell you how I really feel. ;D

Diss them all you want, Sarah. Don’t lie about it, but blow them the feck off. They don’t deserve you.

130 torabora  Sun, Feb 1, 2009 7:31:28pm

I’m concerned that she would show with duh1 in the room. The guys gonna be radioactive before it is over. What’s ever gonna be in it for her? Stay home and mind the volcano…it would be safer.

131 Woodstock  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 12:30:32am

Why would Palin want to go to a RINO event? She has compelling reasons to keep an eye on the volcano at home, the RINO’s did everything in their power to shut her out during the election, she is competent and they are floundering around without access to PORK and earmarks.

Shun them Sarah !

132 Harry Tuttle  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 3:40:58am

136 herdingcats  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 10:40:28am

Can someone explain to me how Sarah Palin is a polarizing figure? I really am at a loss to understand what it is about her that could be taken by a reasonable person as offensive or even controversial. She seems to drive some people nuts, but why?

137 Ron Shaw  Mon, Feb 2, 2009 10:56:34am

Just maybe, the Republican Party is not the Republican Party she used to know?
