Jeez, the MFM for the lack of reporting on CBBHO.
What’s CBBHO? I know BHO? But what’s the CB?
As far as dishonest reporting goes — I couldn’t choose. Right now, I’d say the NY Times needs a lifetime achievement award.

The MSM’s Fiskie was well deserved for 2008.
Amazingly, none of the examples on this particular award list didn’t even go into the two worse items: (1) the “tank” reporting for Obama or (2) the failure to report on the sucess of “the surge” in Iraq.

I’d call that a good start.
My personal favorite is the Hamas duping Time by claiming that the lights went out and Hamas carried out a session of their “legislature” by candle light, even though you could see sunlight streaming in through the windows.
Someone simply shut off the lights in the room.
No one in the newsrooms bothered to notice that when running the story initially.
It’s justice that the IAF blew up that building.

Now the actions of three people who told their voters that they were Republicans have eliminated any hope that the GOP has for influence during the next two years. By making their own deals with the Obama administration and settling for cosmetic improvements in the so-called stimulus package, Sens. Collins, Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) have sold out their party, their state and their supporters.

Obama Tries to Sneak Major Health Care Reform Into Economic Stimulus Bill
(NaturalNews) Under the cover of emergency economic legislation the front wave of an entire new system of health care is being pushed on Americans. The strategy for this ploy was once explained by Obama’s former appointee to head the Department of Health and Human Services, and now exposed tax cheat, Senator Tom Daschle. Daschle spells out the plan on pages 196-197 of his book, Critical – What We Can Do About the Health Care Crisis, “The next president should act immediately to capitalize on the goodwill that greets any incoming administration. If that means attaching a health-care plan to the federal budget, so be it. This issue is too important to be stalled by Senate protocol.” In other words, public debate should be avoided, forget about democracy – so that Obama-care does not meet the same fate as Hillary-care.

NYC has an independent budget office that came up with recommendations to deal with the massive budget hole. Most are tax and fee increases. The NYT reports on this as “money saving ideas”, but the bulk are actually increases in taxes and fees - not saving anyone any money, but ways to generate revenue to support government.

Obama the legal scholar screws up
Ed Lasky
When addressing families of terror victims regarding his decision to suspend military tribunals of suspected terrorists, President Obama “clearly didn’t do his homework” according to the Washington Times. His own legal counsel Greg Craig admitted the President made mistakes when discussing details about terrorism and made a key error when he tried to explain the law to the families.

Published: 02.12.09, 21:35 / Israel News
Egyptian sources reported that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to arrive in Cairo next month in order to participate in a fundraising convention for the reconstruction of Gaza.
The US State Department said it would send a high-ranking official to the convention, in order to reconstruct Gaza as an integral part of a future Palestinian state. (AFP)

Yeah. Yeah, they did that here in Pa. Hah! then Rendell had to say the next day that Pa wouldn’t be getting that much so they were going to make some cuts. A good smack down is what’s needed here; from top to bottom, people get elected to government suddenly think they become endowed with greater wisdom than the folks that put them in office. Suddenly what THEY THINK IS BEST becomes the rule. They consistently ignore the KNOWN wishes of the public. Secure in the knowledge that they can seduce/cajole/bribe and threaten enough folks next time to get elected and THEY DO. That’s what’ wrong here. That and allowing government employees to have unions.

There should be fundraising for Sderot, not Gaza.
Or, as I suggested in email to my senators (Kerry and Kennedy) and congresswoman (Tsongas), all aid to Gaza should be subject to redirection to Israel to compensate for terrorist attacks.
(I did receive boilerplate replies from Tsongas and Kennedy, well, their staffers anyway, nothing so far from Kerry, who is going to Syria soon. I hope he stays there.)

re: #126 thefallingman
Well, I read that one of the major NYC unions was able to allow its members to live outside NYC for the first time while holding a NYC job. They can live in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, Suffolk or Nassau. Previously, you had to live in the City.
“DC 37 members can make a decision now about living somewhere else if they think that’s best for their family, while still working for the city that they love,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn. But it’s not that Mayor Bloomberg was against lifting the residency requirements for DC 37. In fact, during contract negotiations with the union in 2006 he agreed to lift the restriction.
Some City Council members balked at the mayor’s deal with the union, saying outside applicants could beat out city residents for jobs. So they added a requirement that workers must first live in the city for two years before they can move. More than 40,000 DC 37 members now qualify.

re: #114 lawhawk
NYC has an independent budget office that came up with recommendations to deal with the massive budget hole. Most are tax and fee increases. The NYT reports on this as “money saving ideas”, but the bulk are actually increases in taxes and fees - not saving anyone any money, but ways to generate revenue to support government.
Yeesh! Doing NOTHING the economy will recovery faster than with the stimulus package. We KNOW what has worked in the past. Cut tax RATES, cut corporate taxes, trim spending.

Somehow the way your browser enters your comment breaks the margins and shove the left side frame to the bottom of the page. I don’t know what causes it, I’ve posted a question to charles about it.
Apparently I’m not the only affected by it.

*returns to banging head on desk* (less painful than thinking about porkzilla)
just for you, straight from my email:
Dear MoveOn member,
Most Americans support President Obama’s stimulus plan, yet conservative Democrats and Republicans got away with slashing key parts—billions for education, green jobs, and health care—in favor of tax cuts for the rich.1
Why? Because they think most voters will never know. So we’re ready to run ads telling the public how key senators—both Republican and Democrat—voted on the stimulus bill. Can you pitch in $25 to launch this accountability campaign?
link deleted
Politicians are used to lots of pressure before a vote, but they don’t expect accountability after they vote. Their votes have life-or-death consequences for real people—and they should have consequences for lawmakers, too.
Think about it. Most voters will just hear the news headline: “Congress passed Obama’s stimulus plan to create millions of jobs and rebuild the economy.” Sounds great! But they’ll never know if their own senator or representative voted to help them in tough economic times or not. The stimulus will be a huge help, but it could have helped even more if conservatives hadn’t cut job-creating investments.
Elected officials count on this voter ignorance when they vote against the interests of the people they represent. But we can change that calculus.
Can you contribute $25 to run ads letting voters know who stood with Obama to create badly needed jobs—and who stood in the way?

The collection included a copy of the rare February 1998 edition of Dutch Playboy, Krikke said. It featured girls from each of 11 Dutch cities along the route of the country’s most beloved ice skating race, the Elfstedentocht. One of those girls was from Leeuwarden.
Asked whether he thought it was unusual for the town to have a pornography collection, Krikke said “yes” — and that made the loss greater.
“Actually, we don’t have one anymore,” he said.

OK, This Headline from The Telegraph today:
British Muslims insist Surrender to us Properly Now and we Won’t have to Force you into it Later.
Well, it meant that but read this way:
NHS staff told not to hold meetings
where alcohol served in order
not to offend Muslims
And the Muslims threw in a bit about warning potential employees that wearing long sleeves (as of present practice) is prohibited…..they will sue into allowing Muslims to wear their filth-ridden long sleeves later.

Kind of on subject.
I believe that it is wrong for Senators and Representative to post dogma on the Daily Kos.
Today there is a post from Sen Leahy saying how wonderful a “truth commission” would be. We all know this would be a total waste of time and money. The senator was practically giddy over being allowed to post on DK.
There is also a post by Rep Louise Slaughter saying that all the things they are hearing about the Porkzilla bill are false. Like she has read all of the 800 pages plus!
They should be able to post information on such a hateful web site that does not allow any difference of opinion. This is not a web site that is open to actual dialog. Even the Huffpo will let you have an account.
I wonder if these two have even read some of the crap that is posted there. If they are aware they should be ashamed.

At least he is considerate enough to recognize he recreates the Flood each bath time, and is trying to do something to alleviate it. ;)

Obama urges Americans to follow Lincoln’s example
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama called on Americans Thursday to follow Abraham Lincoln’s example of showing generosity to political opponents and valuing national unity — above all else. At a ceremony in the stately Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol marking the 16th president’s 200th birthday, Obama said he felt “a special gratitude” to the historical giant, who in many ways made his own story possible.
Did he just declare war against me ?
Shit.

Wow, yes I love the tech speak, not that I do know much about it, just amazed that you could actually update your ibook with the newest OS. 256 sounds like at least 6-7 years old? How’s the speed with the new OS?
I had no idea how lame my computer was. You are right, it’s 6 years old, but aside from the old software still has a lot of life in her. The speed is the same, but not annoyingly slow. Apple makes great machines.

Hell, you just came up with a new abbreviated format for the nightly news:
Anchor: “Good evening, this is the CBS Evening News. Republicans suck and are evil. Democrats are your friends and do everything for the children. And that’s the way it is. Courage”
I won’t even bother with the sarc tag…….

OT- Pakistan admits the Pakistanis killed the people in India
Pakistan acknowledged the Mumbai attacks were partly plotted on its soil and announced criminal proceedings against eight suspects, including three alleged ringleaders, in a sign it is heeding U.S. and Indian demands to punish those responsible for the deaths of 164 people.

OOO. There in stores? Goody. I hate buying stuff on tv cause those folks have a tendency to play fast and loose with your privacy and I like to SEE this stuff and what it’s like before I buy.
At least in the South of Seattle area, and in one store specifically. Even saw one of them City Slider grill pan thingies I bought on line and received 3 weeks ago. Same base price and, no S&H that nearly doubled the final price. :%P%

Well, with the health care provisions in the stimulusporkage, I think medical sales will decline. Maybe you can work with the government determining what is cost-effective.
You got something there. I could work with the government to help them determine that private sector healthcare is cost-effective.

Nobody’s saying Pakistan planned it, only that it happened to be planned on Pakistani soil by Pakistani people.

I second that,
you should get the updates on the Leopard as well, there was a big one just 6-7 weeks ago, makes it a bit more efficient. Also you might want to get the Onyx application. It’s a free disk utility, which helps you to keep the machine clean from unused, obsolete files and takes care of the logs as well.

Try white noise. Select a TV channel that gives you snow and turn the volume to a soothing level. Cover the TV screen with a towel to block the light. It works for me every time my neighbor parties loudly into the wee hours of the morning.

OT - UN declares that China is okey-dokey on human rights.
China claimed victory Thursday after a U.N. panel examined its human rights record and found it to be on track, despite complaints over abuses including Beijing’s use of labor camps and widespread allegations of police torture.Commenting on a U.N. human rights report published Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said most countries had endorsed China’s rights record — and those that did not were simply politicizing the process.
Meanwhile, On Feb 8th, 79 year old Shuang Shuying was released from prison in China
She also revealed that while in prison she was tortured by the Public Security Bureau (PSB). “…The PSB went to my prison interrogating, threatening and harassing me numerous times,” Shuying said. “They even directed other prisoners to take off all my clothes and forced me to stand alone outside in the evening without letting me sleep.”Shuying added she was slapped on her face and forced to drink her own urine.
And right after the Olympics this summer
CAA has received reports of intensified religious persecution in Beijing, Heilongjiang, Yunnan and Shangdong provinces. In Beijing, Pastor “Bike” Zhang Mingxuan and his family members have been evicted from their home, beaten and arrested. In Heliongjiang province, one city called Yichun recently banned all house churches, CAA reported. In Yunnan province, some house church members were attacked right after the Olympics. In Shandong province, Pastor Zhang Zhongxin was sentenced to two years of re-education through labor, and after the Olympics his appeal was denied, according to CAA.Meanwhile, CAA has learned that 29 house church leaders have been serving time in labor camps and prisons in Henan province since July 2007. They are accused of being “evil cult” members. One leader was sentenced to seven years imprisonment, which is the harshest sentence against a house church leader in recent years, besides Pastor Zhang Rongliang, who was sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in 2004, for allegedly “attempting to illegally cross the border and forgery of an official document,” CAA added.
For the “crime” of being Christian. No word on if the UN considers these acts human rights offenses or thinks China is “on track.”

yep it is, no need for looking for updates.
..actually it’s always worth checking for software updates, just did it and got a fairly large security update, which doesn’t happen that often on Macs.
Don’t know how familiar you are with the update feature (don’t even know whether the Panther had that), you just click on the small apple icon in the menu bar on top and choose Software Update from the drop down menu, that takes care of you.

re: #351 HippieforLife
