Right Wing Blogs in Massive Fail Mode

Blogosphere • Views: 11,127

This is so pathetic I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Dozens — if not hundreds — of right wing blogs are running with this quote, portraying it as a statement about the tea party held last weekend: ‘We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.’

The quote is from January. The National Park Service spokesman was talking about Barack Obama’s inauguration.

WASHINGTON - The National Park Service says it will rely on a media report that says 1.8 million people attended President Obama’s inauguration.

David Barna, a Park Service spokesman, said the agency did not conduct its own count. Instead, it will use a Washington Post account that said 1.8 million people gathered on the US Capitol grounds, National Mall, and parade route.

“It is a record,” Barna said. “We believe it is the largest event held in Washington, D.C., ever.”

An epic, monumental fail.

Why let something like 'facts' get in the way of a good story...

Fact checking is a lost art on both the left and right. People will spout out all manner of nonsense without taking 10 seconds to verify whether or not it is true. This also includes the media.

10 avanti  Mon, Sep 14, 2009 10:09:50pm

When I posted that quote this A.M., I knew it would not be corrected on most blogs by now, and very few have. Literally 10's of 1000's of internet user will be mislead, than when the real numbers are released, it will be a conspiracy from the MSM to "shrink" the attendance.

Yikes...oh well.
It would be nice if someone like the police department or the CURRENT parks department rep gave an estimate (have they?) since they have a little more experience in estimating crowds then the fire department.

The continual jumping of the shark.

And the latest article at American "Thinker" delves into toponymy or onomastics -- that is names. Hence an article entitled What's in a leftist's name?, by James Lewis:

All the "ex's" in that paragraph refer to their various Stations of the Cross, as they jump from one identity to another. All those "ex's" are the marks of someone with a haunting sense of inadequacy. Just call me X, like Malcolm X Little El Hajj Malik El Shabazz.

Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama II is of course another one. That's why, having conquered the US presidency from the far, far, outasight Left, while covering up his true identity, he now feels the craving to preside over the UN Security Council for the first time in history. Being President doesn't satisfy Mr. Obama. He must be the Second Coming of Christ, giving lasting peace to all the peoples of the world whether they like it or not. Swallow that ObamaCare, kid, or else.

SNIP

At some point most people figure out who they are, and if they are lucky, they like it well enough. They discover a world of meaning -- in their family, in their God, in some obsessive hobby like stamp collecting or in being a Cat Person. Or, in this day and age, they become an Eternal Rebel, and if they're Saul Alinsky they explicitly dedicate their book to Lucifer. (As Alinsky did with Rules for Radicals.) Trouble is, most of that isn't satisfying either, so they have to find a never-ending crusade, with its very own evil enemies to fight, and its own messianic heroes to follow. They're always chasing Tomorrow (1). Christopher Hitchens is a classic case; he keeps looking for another God, from Karl Marx to Leon Trotsky to Thomas Paine. They're all The God that Failed.

A literal meeting of religious politics, astrology, approaching numerology [Morrissey], and of course the demonization of names. The author here implies that the president's name was pre-planned for a pre-intended political purpose.

Cue in the Twilight Zone music.

•Dick Durbin, D-Ill.
•Bernie Sanders, D-Vt.

Charles,

I have been a silent reader of your blog for many many years. I truly do not understand why you have difficulty understanding those whom are right of center who are honestly concerned with a very left of center Executive and Legislative branch over-reaching and threatening our liberties. All political groups have their 'crazies' but to demonize us all is just silly. I will still read lgf, but to be honest it has become tiresome as of late, due to an apparent hatred of right of center political thought when it comes to domestic issues. Thankfully, I am nearly 100% in agreement with you in regards to the war on radical islamic terrorists and even most foreign policy debates.

PS...I can believe in God and Evolution. I am curious of your thoughts in this area, since you have been posting relentlessly on evolution stories over the last few months.

Nothing here is so important as to say "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and justify being part of something where hate groups go. Durbin, Burris Vote to Continue Funding Acorn

Senator Mike Johanns (R-NE) introduced an amendment to the HUD and Transportation appropriation bill to strip ACORN of all federal funding. A week ago, Johanns wouldn’t have gotten the amendment to the floor. Today, however, after three straight days of BigGovernment.com’s video exposés of ACORN offices in Washington DC, New York City, and Baltimore offering assistance to pimping, tax evasion, and trafficking in underage Salvadorean girls, Johanns not only got his vote — but he got an impressive bipartisan showing. The Senate passed the Johanns amendment 83-7.

The seven Senators supporting ACORN:

Dick Durbin (D-IL)
Roland Burris (D-IL)
Robert Casey (D-PA)
Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)
Patrick Leahy (D-VT)
Bernie Sanders (I-VT)
Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)

(I apologize in advance for the long comment)

Thinking on the topic at hand, I've thought for a while that the definition of what is left and right has steadily crept to the right over the last 25 years+. I keep looking at Reagan, his willingness to extend amnesty to Illegal Immigrants, He willingly let the Department of education continue and expand after being created by Carter. He cut taxes, but increased spending (which certainly doesn't shrink government). was a mixed bag on the second amendment restrictions imposed I could go on but those examples are at least a start. Certainly he did a number of things that would be considered conservative, but a lot of his big actions would be considered liberal now.

Obama is increasing our ground force in Afghanistan, has resisted efforts to look into the allegations of torture. He's effectively told the Military and the CIA that he's got their back. We can argue if his response to the Iranian thugs is strong enough, and we can argue that there are other issues that he's dead wrong on (Honduras comes to mind). But if we're going to argue that the US Government has more information than we do on things, then perhaps there's more that's going on in Honduras than we realize. After all if getting a lot of the big picture right with Afghanistan, with the CIA, and with some of the apparent policy shifts (not going to talk to the Iranian Thugs), maybe he knows something we don't.

Anyway the point of this rather lengthy post is that Obama is still a fairly centrist president, particularly in the foreign policy arena. Economically, he's to the left with the expansion of government. I'm a libertarian, however, when you look at the economic system as it was in late 2008, and the near economic collapse that seems to have been averted for now, I realize that maybe the government *had* to step in and do something, and really, we were left with trying to pick out the best of a set of bad options. Same concept with the Auto industry, perhaps it'd be more libertarian to let the auto industry collapse, but I don't think libertarian purity is justification enough for the economic and financial suffering that the country would endure if the entire system collapsed.

However the people who've allied themselves with Beck, the Birthers, view Obama as just left of Mao Hitler and Stalin, and is probably the long lost brother of Trotsky. It all comes down to purity. If you can't support *everything* they come up with, then you're a flaming libtard who wears a che shirt and prays towards mecca. That is unless you're a dirty illegal who wants to steal all the jobs and make America speak spanish, and eat tacos. They've made a decision that the only way to win is to become more and more pure. so all the RINOs and all the people who aren't pure, suddenly are defined as leftist. It's the ultimate in moving the goalposts to define who's with you and who's not.

As an aside, i suspect some of this comes from the efforts of the "right" wing blogs to win tactical news cycles. The efforts to win tactical skirmishes has been a staple of the Republican party during the Rove era, and was a success until both the electorate as a majority became sick of the news cycle, and the Democrats picked a candidate who could effectively play the long game. Even now, you can see the Republicans still trying to win news cycles (just read memeorandum.com and see how the news cycles are being driven) rather than give substantial policies and counter proposals to the Democrats in general and Obama in specific. unless there is a total economic collapse and a total failure in Afghanistan and a serious war/terrorist attack, the Republican party won't regain the white house and will find themselves further marginalized by their own purifications efforts and the long game of Obama.

And at the rate the Republicans are going, they're going to define themselves out of existence and with some luck, we'll see a rational center right party form that can serve as an effective counter balance to the Democrats.

Lots of people who follow racist movements have missed something key in their lives. The thing that says "it's okay if I do it to you, as long as you can't do it to me." Or "I better keep you down or you're going to do it to me"

When I was in high school, my Jewish friend gave me a tape of Khalid Abdul Muhammed so I could do research for an anti-Semitism paper. This guy was one of the worst people ever to preach, but it made me think of white people who did that to blacks. Anything related to race based hatred has turned me off in the worst way. Anything with the slightest TINGE of it pisses me off. This is why Ron Paul, Pat Buchanan, the asshole who posted the voodoo pic of Obama are unrepentant creeps. That said, I lack political correctness in my speech often and have a twisted sense of humor, so who's perfect.

A nice visual aide for people that have no ability to estimate a crowd size, so much so that they can look at a crowd of 160k people and estimate it at 40-50K, then look at a crowd of 50-70k people and estimate it at 1-2M.

I don't think it's that the Two Million Moron March folks are stupid (not all of them anyway), I think that most of them are either the "This supports my beliefs, so it really, really must be true" types, or they are cynical liars hoping to fool people into believing that there is more support for their narrative than there actually is.

Associating with ACORN is the moral and political equivalent of wet crapping your pants in a public place, something you hope to avoid at all costs.

/Democrats are bolting for the restroom

The Dems didn't see it that way until ACORN got caught doing something bad on tape. Now they're pulling away as fast as they can. My guess is that by the end of the week Bertha Lewis and ACORN will experience that magical trip to a land called Under The Bus.

Report warns doctors snub families of the terminally ill amid growing use of 'death pathway'

More than a quarter of families are not told when life support is withdrawn from terminally-ill loved ones, a report has found.

Experts warn that growing use of a controversial 'death pathway' is seeing some patients killed off prematurely.

They say the system can lead to 'backdoor euthanasia' by encouraging doctors to deny fluids and drugs to those deemed to be in their final throes.

Under the so-called Liverpool Care Pathway, which is used across the NHS and in many nursing homes, doctors can withdraw assistance from the terminally ill and sedate them continuously until death.

About 20,000 patients are thought to die this way each year.

But a national audit of the scheme found that 28 per cent of relatives were not informed that a loved one had been placed on the pathway.

re: #182 Pianobuff

The scientific paper is here:

Atmospheric carbon dioxide through the Eocene–Oligocene climate transition

Geological and geochemical evidence1, 2, 3 indicates that the Antarctic ice sheet formed during the Eocene–Oligocene transition4, 33.5–34.0 million years ago.

Modelling studies5, 6 suggest that such ice-sheet formation might have been triggered when atmospheric carbon dioxide levels () fell below a critical threshold of 750 p.p.m.v., but the timing and magnitude of [CO2] relative to the evolution of the ice sheet has remained unclear.

Here we use the boron isotope pH proxy7, 8 on exceptionally well-preserved carbonate microfossils from a recently discovered geological section in Tanzania9, 10 to estimate [CO2] before, during and after the climate transition.

Our data suggest that a reduction in [CO2] occurred before the main phase of ice growth, followed by a sharp recovery to pre-transition values and then a more gradual decline. During maximum ice-sheet growth, was between 450 and 1,500 p.p.m.v., with a central estimate of 760 p.p.m.v.

The ice cap survived the period of recovery, although possibly with some reduction in its volume, implying (as models predict11) a nonlinear response to climate forcing during melting.

Overall, our results confirm the central role of declining in the development of the Antarctic ice sheet (in broad agreement with carbon cycle modelling12) and help to constrain mechanisms and feedbacks associated with the Earth's biggest climate switch of the past 65 Myr.

These are not so new ideas... but are experimental confirmation of theoretical projections.

Actually, I'd guess that you're right. There were lots of "normal" people who went to this thing in DC, I'm sure. They either don't know or have chosen to admit that they are attending events organized by the Paulbot/Bircher brigade. That means at least 50% of the folks in DC aren't Paulbots/Birchers. I'd also surmise that this demonatrations was a strong attractant for the weirdos, so a large percentage of them made the trip to DC, which means that not that many of them stayed home ...
