Antichrist Superstar

Weird • Views: 2,620

Here’s one of those stories that makes you go aaarrrgghhh, as the latest Public Policy Polling survey shows that a significant number of New Jersey voters believe Barack Obama might be His Nibs. The Horned One. Beelzebub.

The Antichristers were also represented at last weekend’s tea party demonstration, of course:

Lots of Truthers and Birthers in the survey too. Here are the full results, with crosstabs.

About 20% of people believe the Earth is the center of the Universe. 8% isn't too bad.

I thought Anti Christ Superstar was a Marilyn Manson CD.

3 Baier  Wed, Sep 16, 2009 10:35:43am

Crazy, but if you ask that about Bush I bet it would be even higher.

Wait. Is Obama Jewish? Jerry Falwell said the anti-Christ is going to be a Jewish male.

5 Honorary Yooper  Wed, Sep 16, 2009 10:36:10am

Disgusting. The man is a human being, no more, no less.
Although, it is interesting that 5% of liberals can't seem to make up their minds if Obama is or isn't the antichrist - LOL!

I don't like where this is going. as hitler proved, demonization can lead to very bad things when the number of believers reaches critical mass.

31% of people who voted for Obama in 2008 are Troofers (19% unsure). On issue of birthers - it's a near mirror to the troofer question.

It shows that the Obamacare is going to have a hard time passing. If it can't generate a majority approval in NJ, it's going to have a hard time being swallowed in more conservative locales.

17 Leonidas Hoplite  Wed, Sep 16, 2009 10:39:22am

Even with fair polling we're looking at 3% Democrats, 3% Republicans and 2% voters believe this.

The Rasmussen Reports Savior/AntiChrist index Shows Obama on a negative trend since the inauguration. The number of people who believe he is the Anti-Christ has remained steady while those believing he is The One true Savior and President have declined slightly. Focus groups indicate the reason for this trend may be due to a lack of free unicorns.

White house spokesperson Amy Nonomous told Fox news that the Happy Magical Powers defecit left by the previous administration was more severe than previously expected.

Told this story before...

Last summer we were at a water park which had a big bucket that dumped periodically. I was watching the "baby" and bored. The bucket had a sign telling us how many gallons it dumped. 1,000 gallons. I wondered how fast it was filling. I timed it. 150 seconds per dumping. That meant that the bucket was filling at the rate of 6.66666 (etc) gallons per second.

I had found...(lightning flash) the bucket of the beast. Yes, I grinned over it.

(Have you ever stood guard over a four year old who wanted to play on the same water toy for forty minutes?)

Anyway, point is...sometimes a number is just a number.

47 Buster  Wed, Sep 16, 2009 10:46:24am

I read somewhere, before the election, that there were growing concerns that people, for the supposed reason of survey fatigue, were giving misleading answers to surveys. How would an atheist answer this question? I initially thought it would be definitely 'No', but isn't that acknowledging that there would be such a thing as an 'Anti-Christ'? Answering 'Not Sure' isn't really an option, either.

I suppose 'skipping the question while laughing at the premise' is not an option?

From TPMDC on the same poll:

But Democrats shouldn't be too eager to laugh at this. On the other side of the political spectrum, there's some significant 9/11 Trutherism among Dem voters. We've got 32% of Jersey Democrats who say that George W. Bush had advance knowledge of the 9/11 attacks. In addition, another 19% of Jersey Dems are Truther-Curious, in the undecided column.

So that's only 48% of Jersey Republicans who definitively are not Birthers, and 49% of Dems who are officially not Truthers. Don't you just love our polarized politics?

Good question. The results as we're taking them right now assumes everyone was playing it straight. Some of us might choose "yes" just to fuck with the results.

Silly people. No self-respecting anti-Christ would need a teleprompter.

Also, a real manly anti-Christ would not smoke Kool 100's. He'd go for filterless Camels or Chesterfield's. A real anti-Christ could smoke three packs a day of those bad boys for years without his breathing sounding like an espresso maker, or Darth Vader with sleep apnea.

Besides, he's supposed to be charismatic AND a leader.

Nope--no anti-Christ here. Move along, citizens.

In Congress, 'A Lot Of Angst' Over Afghanistan

Meanwhile, back at the Capital Building,

Congress: We have much angst today, General.

General JCoS: Yes, I realize that, but we need more men to get the job done.

Congress: When does this end, General? How do we get out of this?

General JCoS: Things are not going so well right now, but with more boots on the ground and support, we feel we can get the job done.

Congress: So, General, you do not know how or when we will be able to leave?

General JCoS: We need more men there right now.

Announcer: Will Congress give the General the troops he needs? Or, will Congress once again lack the intestinal fortitude to do what is required? Will the Afghans help themselves or be thrown back to a Pre-911 hell?

These questions, and many more will be answered on the next exciting episode of Watch the US Bug Out of Afghanistan!

Obama Admin: Cap And Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year

From the article:

Because personal income tax revenues bring in around $1.37 trillion a year, a $200 billion additional tax would be the equivalent of a 15 percent increase a year. A $100 billion additional tax would represent a 7 or 8 percent increase a year.

And this:

One odd point: The document written by Jaffee includes this line: "It will raise energy prices and impose annual costs on the order of XXX." The Treasury Department redacted the rest of the sentence with a thick black line.

Speaking of the Antichrist, Jimmy Carter has a lot of nerve calling anyone (Joe Wilson) a racist. When Carter ran for Governor of Georgia in 1970 he toured around south Georgia making speeches saying, "I am one of you". These were generally interpreted to be racist code words.

He also ran on a "ticket" with Lester Maddox (then running for Lt. Governor) in the Democrat primary, which was the only election that mattered, it being a given that the Democrat would win any statewide race. Wikipedia says Carter did not run on a ticket with Maddox, but I remember differently, and I was a resident of Georgia at the time. This was newsworthy because it was quite unusual for candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor to run as a ticket in the primary, so it got lots of press.

Incidentally, Carter was running against one of the most progressive governors the State of Georgia ever had, Carl Sanders.

Sorry to disappoint you guys, but most of the conservatives I know like to mess with the pollsters and screw up the idiotic, simplistic questions that mean little in the end. If someone called me and asked if Obama was the Antichrist - I would have laughed and said 'yes'. Not because I thought so, but because I have such disdain for pollsters and their poorly phrased questions. This means nothing at all. As for horns and pointy ears on pictures - darn right. Its about having a sense of humor in the midst of a nasty political fight - not some sort of antichristism. I would advise dropping the 'birthers', 'thuthers' and what ever 'thers name calling you can dream up. Its a poor way to argue a point and sounds more than a bit unsophisticated.

OT, but had to drive into the big city this morning, and got caught in really crappy traffic - backed up forever. Started to get steamed, then remembered something a great old friend used to yell in similar situations:

"That's it lemmings! Bunch up!"

Made me laugh...felt much better.

How can it be Bush? He left office, and is no longer ruling over us.

Wait a minute ... a phone poll? Puh-leaze. I don't how many times I messed with stupid phone polls. It reminds me of Carl Sagan explaining an exotic island's inhabitant's reaction to a stranger asking them where babies come from. It's very likely the inhabitant will give a silly answer... and this is New Jersey, after all.

Perhaps the pollsters misunderstood the answers they got.

Since I'm on a roll with these google searches, here's a few more:

Hitler antichrist: 5.3 million
Hitler antichrist - obama: 3.6 million
Hitler antichrist -bush: 2.6 million
Hitler antichrist without bush or obama: 2.01 million

The same caveats apply as before - links could include postings that debunk any such discussion.

203 DaddyG  Wed, Sep 16, 2009 11:28:00am

re: #135 lawhawk

We ran the search a while back.

You have to run the search for bush antichrist without obama. 556,000 hits.

The reverse, obama antichrist -bush yields... 7,100,000 hits.

Bear in mind that many of those hits include debunking of same, but that's a staggering difference. Seriously WTF.

Can you put date parameters on it so that the search looks for hits within the same date range for each presidency? I suspect recency may have an effect.

But there is no doubt that the religious right has their particular memes.

As for the memes of the left...
Bush torture, Bush war crimes will probably get a better result than Obama torture, Obama war crimes.

I'm guessin.

You don't have to be an ACORN cell leader or an MSNBC leg-tingler to see a racial angle in this either.
To garden-variety bigots, there would be something strange, unnatural, and frankly challenging about a black man this smart and this powerful. This would be reinforced by the fever swamp's speculation about his background. If the bigot is a hard-core Bible thumper, as many are, it is just a short jump to supernatural intervention as a likely explanation.

Must not that be that significant since he won the state last November. But wait! Chris Christie, the Republican, is leading incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine, and may actually unseat him - even though Obama came to New Jersey to speak at a rally for Corzine a few months ago. Yep, bad craziness indeed.
