Must Read: Barrett Brown’s Take-Down of Wacko Blogger R.S. McCain

I’m working on the code to “promote” LGF Pages to the front page, at which point I guess LGF would officially become a sort of group blog.

That code isn’t ready yet, but here’s a great Page that would definitely be promoted if it were — Barrett Brown’s hilarious deconstruction of right wing wacko Robert Stacy McCain’s latest sleazy smear job: LGF Pages - R.S. McCain accuses me of planning violent attacks.

I did read that earlier in the featured pages. Great wry writing styling. Nothing like substance with style to make your point. Well done.

Incidentally, that and other details about McCain’s unethical practices and white nationalist history will be revealed in my upcoming book, which includes an entire chapter on him, and which he has seen because I sent him the manuscript a few months ago in case he wanted to dispute anything I said about him. For some reason, McCain forgot to mention thi

You laugh, but there is still a sizeable community of dedicated hand-coders out there. These aren’t people who can’t afford dreamweaver or something like that. These are purists of an odd sort.

I also know some serious computer nerds that eschew a GUI and do EVERYTHING from the CLI (console aka tty). Once again, this isn’t because they don’t have video cards or somethings, it’s just basically because they think using a mouse is for pussies. Some of them can do astounding things within a few seconds given a console window.

Then there is a third kind of purist hobbyist: People who like taking ancient computers and trying to cram modern operating systems on them. this group often overlaps with the CLI purist group. Bragging rights are earned by getting the linux kernel (or some hacked down version of it) to run on computers with the LOWEST possible stats. Getting Linux, complete with graphical desktop, up and running in 39mb of ram, makes you a God with this set.

Nerds are weird and wonderful creatures.

I like coding by hand, and still use vim for almost everything. But, I run vim in a terminal emulator, within gnome. I tend to prefer command-line utilities because i’m nuts about scripting everything, and scripts are just easier to write for things you already know how to use at the command line.

However, i’d be lost without my file manager, VLC, and a few other things that are just easier for me to do with a mouse. Using cat and piping to do word processing just isn’t for me lol. (I’ve seen it done)

I must admit, I learned with vi, then transitioned to vim, and have always been somewhat intimidated by emacs, so I stick with vim. The last time I looked at emacs was years ago, though, so I am installing emacs from a repository as we speak.

Maybe i’ll like it better now, or rather, have the patience not to get all irritated that it has different shortcuts from vim (which I am used to) and quit. That’s what happened last time.
