Integrity is not extinct.

Good for them.

A minor setback.

They just suicided his campaign.

5 Iwouldprefernotto  Thu, Jun 9, 2011 12:19:33pm

Did they resign or did he divorce them for younger ones?

He would only do that if they were deathly ill.

"Gringrich campaign staff resigns"

He had a campaign?

I noticed this comment:

Hes a Rino and I cant vote for Rino’s anymore. They do nothing but distroy. Time for a business solution as this country is a business and should be run as such. Herman Cain is my man.

Why on earth would anyone think this country was a business?

And if they did really think that, why wouldn't they be horrified by the notion?

Randian notjobs.

Odd. I wonder what the source of the problem was. It must have been fairly serious.

I give no more than 72 hours before we find out.

Good point. There could be some drama/controversy not far away.

I will bet anyone ten updings that Gingrich's wife has something to do with it.

How long before Newt comes out and says his previous campaign staff was a Mercedes when all he wanted was a Cadillac?

18 Killgore Trout  Thu, Jun 9, 2011 12:28:09pm

I still see the gop nomination as a game of "hot potato" that nobody actually wants to win. Maybe it became clear to staffers that Newt had no intention of running a serious campaign.

"Randian nutjobs" is redundant. Randian will do.

Unless by "Randian", you mean followers of the Amazing Randy. And even then...

I thought of that too. Maybe he has a scandal brewing, maybe another divorce.

21 Bulworth  Thu, Jun 9, 2011 12:29:27pm

A couple of the Newtster's campaign people were Rick Perry confidants. This developments fits with a Wash Post article I read this morning hinting at a Perry run for the WH.

No kidding. Whatever it is, it's bigger than a six figure revolving balance at Tiffany's.

I've been set to use the < strike> tag on that "Newt Gingrich" entry on my EY12 running tab. Hopefully, I can use it much sooner than later.

Perry wouldn't even win Texas if he ran for POTUS, since he's currently polling in single digits here among potential presidential candidates.

The last time that happened with a Texas governor I thought "Good, get W outa Texas and outa our hair"... then he made things worse for everyone. I will not be so selfish this time (but I still want Perry gone far, far away).

27 blueraven  Thu, Jun 9, 2011 12:35:28pm

I think they all quit because Newt is not serious. He is in it for the fundraising.

You dont take a vacation when things are just getting hot on the campaign trail. He left his staff to answer questions while he and Calista sail the Greek islands.

He is toast.

You mean the bribe from the diamond mining industry?

Gingrich's ex-aide is a Tiffany's lobbyist

Christy Evans, formerly a top staffer to then-whip Newt Gingrich, is a registered lobbyist for Tiffany's, the high-end jeweler where Gingrich and his wife enjoy an extraordinary line of credit.

Evans, former floor assistant to Gingrich and now a lobbyist at the legendary K Street firm Cassidy & Associates, has represented Tiffany's on mining issues since 2000, according to lobbying filings. The Gingriches have benefitted from a $250,000 line of credit at Tiffany's -- essentially an interest-free loan.

Felix Salmon at Reuters points to this report that Callista Gingrich was benefitting from this line of credit while serving on the House Agriculture -- while Tiffany's was lobbying agencies over which the Ag Committee had jurisdiction.

Probably has to do more with no retail luxury tax lobbying.

Ron Paul's campaign may win the nomination by default.

They probably caught a clue that he wasn't serious when he announced his candidacy, then took the Wife-Bot for a luxury cruise for two weeks.

This is what I've been thinking too.
I wish he was included in that recent poll by ABC (I think) where only Romney came out competitive with Obama.
So much hilarity ahead... Who needs soap operas and drama TV series when you've got the republican party. (I'll hang on to The Wire though, thanks).

Is the GOP doing this in order to try and get as much support behind Romney as early as possible?

Nah, the GOP is too far gone to back Romney.
