Cool tip! I'll have to give that a try. It may depend on how fresh your garlic is. Fresher garlic is usually much tougher to peel.
10 | Killgore Trout Wed, Sep 28, 2011 5:55:08pm |
Bonus tip: Take your unused cloves of garlic and stick them in the dirt out in the garden. Any time of year and they will grow. Garlic greens have a milder taste that the bulbs and work well as a garnish for soups, fish, etc. Once the plant turns brown in late summer you can dig up the bulbs as needed. Free garlic for life!

He's not prime-time in Texas, he's not prime-time in the GOP =no go for the General.

Fighting poverty pays off, report says
A homeless person in Calgary, for example, can run up $42,000 a year in costs at emergency shelters. Putting that person in a prison or psychiatric hospital would cost about $120,000. But giving that person access to supportive housing and social services would cost between $13,000 and $18,000, the report says.
Intuitive, obvious, logical, and completely at odds with modern conservative orthodoxy.

Yup. I bet there is still stuff to come out of the last campaign - people holding it just in case.
I mean, FFS, Perry made Palin look like Primetime overthe last couple of debates. And she will have name recognition over Cain.
Cain hasn't had the chance to develop massive personal negatives yet - although the effect of his tax plans and some of the recent dubious statements will accomplish that.

Cain's rise is predictable and will probably be short lived. I won't be surprised to see him in the VP slot but I guess that depends on how hard he falls from front runner.

I think there is frustration in the old guard too. You see it with Rove especially and older members of the house caucus. I believe there was one who expressed dismay at the Palin/TP backed candidates that he felt and with validity cost them the Senate. Rove and G.W Bush I think wanted to expand the GOP base which is why whether it was a sincere gesture or not, they courted Latino voters and Bush did well with them. I think despite my problems with Bush, I think it was sincere. His nieces/nephews and sister in law are Latino, and I think he's probably one of the few prominent Republicans in recent years to truly understand immigrants and their dreams.

Job Stewart did a number on the base pointing to similar problems, they want the child of hardworking immigrants done good - but one who will then close the door on all future immigrants.
A candidate who will roll up their sleeves, but be modest enough not to show forearms.

Herman Cain: 'I could not support Rick Perry
Herman Cain said he could not support Rick Perry if he is the Republican nominee for president, citing a “basic fundamental difference of opinion” on border security.
Continue Reading“Today I could not support Rick Perry as the nominee for a host of reasons,” Cain told CNN host Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday.
“Him being soft on securing the border is one of the reasons. I feel very strongly about the need to secure the border for real, the need to enforce the laws that are already there, the need to promote the path to citizenship that’s already there,” Cain said.

Weird I had always thought he started Godfather's and built it form the ground up. My problem with Cain is that he has showed that he doesn't understand government that well. His positions on Muslims show that to me. He said it would be okay for the government to ban mosques guess he doesn't know that first amendment thing and that he wouldn't appoint Muslims to his cabinet since he thinks that would be enabling Shariah Law. He says he's the victim of discrimination a lot yet he throws a lot of bigoted crap out there himself. I saw on his wiki page that he once triy to distinguish himself form Obama by saying he was a black American in contrast with Obama who in his words is different because his father was an African immigrant. That one pisses me off. I've known African immigrants over the years and they're great people. But Cain was desperate to pander to those in the base who fear the "other."

I think there's very little or no chance of Republicans winning the presidency. Obama's approval rating is tied to the economy and his numbers stink accordingly. Some reputable polls (let's just ignore Rassmuessen) show idiot loons like Ron Paul beating Obama but that's just because the average American is paying attention to celebrity dance competitions. Once the voters get to know the GOP field none of them have a chance. Maybe Mitt but he's going to lose the base to attract a few moderates and I don;t think that's going to end well.

Yeah I never thought McCain would have gotten the nomination given that he was apparently loathed by the base for his role in immigration reform. I guess that's why while I am skeptical about Romney, I don't totally rule him about. I still do think that Romney will encounter the same problem McCain did if he wins the nomination and that's getting enough people to vote for him rather than against his opponent. Kerry if you ask me struggled in 2004 because many of his supporters weren't so much working for Kerry but against Bush, and I am of the mind that you need to have people actually wanting to vote for you to do well.

Cain is competent but crazy.

Bachmann is, well Bachmann

It was so hilarious to me seeing them get all excited for this guy and hearing Limbaugh on the radio when I was commuting to community college on the bus talk about how Thompson was unstoppable and then hear Rush upset that his white knight was a colossal flop. The other funny thing of course was seeing people who no doubt embrace the Tea Parties mock them when they were a Ron Paul thing.

The 538 blog pointed out that FL possibly upping its primary puts a timing squeeze on Christie's entry. Silver didn't even mention SP in that context.

If the GOP go anti-obama in '12 they fail, and will have failed to learn EVERY SINGLE FUCKING LESSON from the failure of the democrats in '04.
We have nothing to learn from those Muslim-loving traitors!
Except the Dems were smart enough to have their come-to-Jesus moment as a party after Mondale got humiliated on a national stage. The GOP haven't gotten there yet.

I live in the conservative "T" of Pennsylvania, so I know lots of Republicans similar to those in Iowa, NH, SC, ect., and I couldn't see many of them voting for a pro-choice, pro-gun control New Yorker, no matter how much he reduced crime or ran around Ground Zero.

After Christie pissed off the Geller/Spencer gang of idiots by calling the Creeping Sharia meme total crap, I doubt he's going to run. He'd end up spending all his time dealing with the crazies in the base than doing anything productive.

A couple of days ago I created a web page with 8 columns for live tweet feeds that update every 20 seconds: wingnut bloggers, political news, misc. wingnuts (Palin, Allen West, etc.), conservative pundits, 2012 presidential candidates, GOP, independents/other, and democrats.
The reason I did it that way is because I don't want to actually follow all those people on Twitter, but I wanted to be able to peek and see what kind of activity is going on at any given time. By far the most active are the wingnut bloggers—THEY NEVER STFU, and they're always saying some ugly crap about someone. I've come to the conclusion that think they're probably the main vehicle used to deliver the poison that's in our society these days.

If they lose the presidency by big doouble digits in states, but do well in the senate races with insane candidates it will put off the reformation.

We did a laser tag team bonding thing for work in Indy a couple of years ago...It was really fun.. 3 story building with all kinds of scenarios..
I hid in a corner in the dark behind some barrels with smoke every where..
I just shot everybody running past me.. Not sure how that reinforced team building.. But it sure was fun

It's true. Many on the right are convinced their problem is that they're not conservative enough. I have to say, I am an old school type democrat ideologically wise more than I am a "new Democrat" but the party needed changing following the Mondale and Dukakis debacles. And I'll say this as a younger voter, the Republican party isn't going to get far with my generation if they keep with the rigid social conservatism. They may not all go Democratic but they won't want much to do with the GOP.

re: #58 Atlas Fails
Christie, maybe. I don't see Romney inspiring a whole lot of confidence in moderates or conservatives. Sure, he'll get some hold-your-nose vote from the tea party, but that will be counterbalanced by the hold-your-nose Obama voting liberals.
Why is everyone giving up on Perry? He's set the bar for himself so low thus far that anything even remotely articulate will be seen as a big step forward. And, as far as identity politics go, he's certainly the one the TP and religious conservatives most identify with.
Romney used to be center-left and Christie is a moderate on a whole range of issues. So they could still be beaten by "the real deal" conservative, Perry. And I still don't think Christie's running. It's one thing to say you're not running once; another thing to say it 5,000 times. Also he has serious health issues, not a plus in a long arduous campaign.
