Paul Ryan Running Away From Todd Akin

Mitt Romney’s running mate Paul Ryan, one of the most extreme anti-choice fanatics in Congress, is desperately trying to put some distance between himself and Missouri caveman Todd Akin.

But just look at the questions he refuses to answer directly, and read between the lines, and it’s pretty obvious that even though he’s making a big show of denouncing Akin, he’s not denouncing Akin’s positions.

Delano: “Should abortions to be available to women who are raped?”

Ryan: “Well, look, I’m proud of my pro-life record. And I stand by my pro-life record in Congress. It’s something I’m proud of. But Mitt Romney is the top of the ticket and Mitt Romney will be president and he will set the policy of the Romney administration.”

Do I need to point out that he totally dodged that question?

Despite Ryan’s views, Romney says he will allow exceptions for rape and incest. Ryan also seemed to back away from earlier views on types of rape.

Delano: “You sponsored legislation that has the language ‘forcible rape.’ What is forcible rape as opposed…”

Ryan: “Rape is rape. Rape is rape, period. End of story.”

Delano: “So that forcible rape language meant nothing to you at the time?”

Ryan: “Rape is rape and there’s no splitting hairs over rape.”

The article says he “seemed to back away” — emphasis on seemed.

I have to admit, though — it’s wonderful to see Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan using the exact same words as President Obama, in their desperation.

Paul Ryan proudly supports his record of supporting the reproductive rights of rapists ahead of their victims.

You know what? I recant. I thought Ryan was a silly choice, totally without justification.

I was wrong. Ryan is the perfect running mate for Mitt Romney. Dubiously-sourced massive wealth, complete inability to answer questions honestly, unwillingness to stand by any achievement (large or small), and a palpable contempt for the voter who wishes to know where they stand on an issue. They're mirror images of one another.

Paul Ryan running away from Paul Ryan:

Delano: “So that forcible rape language meant nothing to you at the time?”

Ryan: “Rape is rape and there’s no splitting hairs over rape.”

The difference between Ryan and Akin:

Ryan used the words Mitt would have used.

He's very proud of his proud proudly prolife record.

Shorter Ryan: I can't believe you people are making me talk about my votes against women.

If I were team Biden I would be game planning how to expose Ryan's attempt to downplay his extreme views.

I wish Soledad O'Brien had run that interview. She wouldn't have allowed to him weasel out like that.

Shit, as much as I dislike Chris Matthews, he'd have nailed Ryan to the wall.

David Barton supports Akin. No surprise there.

Paul Ryan MUST answer the following questions:

1- Do you regret co-sponsoring legislation that added the category of "forcible" rape? Would you do it again?

2- What exactly is "forcible" rape?

3- Regardless of how you feel about Akin's comments, do you believe a woman should be forced by the government to carry a rapists baby inside her to term?

I kinda suspect that's why Ryan won't be agreeing to interviews by either of them.

So it was a bad choice of words? No. It was a window to the soul. Intent? Identical. Two peas in a pod. First Mitt Romney denies knowing Mitt Romney and now Paul Ryan is asking who Paul Ryan is. Busted.

Bryan Fischer fails again:

If he loses this race, it will be the fault of party poobahs, not Todd Akin. One of the party leaders actually suggested last night that the GOP try to run a third-party challenge to their own candidate. That would be a certifiably guaranteed way to forfeit victory to the opposition. You can ask Bill Clinton all about that.

Akin’s words, for which he apologized even though he had no need to, were right. He was entirely correct to say that pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare. Even if the exaggerated figures of the pro-abortion medical community are accurate, pregnancies due to rape amount to just 0.005% of all pregnancies. That’s rare in anybody’s book. Because of the horror of assault rape - which ought to be a capital crime again in the U.S. as it was for most of our history - we can be grateful for that.
...
Unfortunately for the nattering nabobs of negativism who think Akin is some kind of medical Neanderthal, the London Daily Mail has a headline story TODAY which has this as the very first paragraph: “Stress can make women infertile, research has revealed. Scientists found that those with high levels of a stress hormone stop ovulating and are therefore unable to conceive.”

Who look like the dumb ones now?

That would still be you and Akin, Bryan.

The article you are bragging about, "Stress may be causing infertility in women", is a study about long term stress, usually over their jobs and other life issues, which has affected their long term ovulation patterns, not the sudden stress and physical reaction to an assault.

As for the president’s claim that Romney-Ryan will restrict birth control, Ryan calls that ridiculous.

“Nobody is proposing to deny birth control to anybody,” says Ryan.

Ryan says women won’t fall for these side issues.

“And I don’t think they’re going to take the bait of all these distractions that the President is trying to throw at them.”

Women won't fall for your bullshit. All the more because you call their central issues "distractions".

pregnancies in cases of forcible rape are rare.

Expect this to be the next "mainstream" position on abortion.

nattering nabobs of negativism

Spiro Agnew, 1972, but probably written by William Safire. Safire and Patrick Buchanan were the brains behind many of Agnew's famous droplets of alliterative wisdom, including "impudent corps of effete snobs" and "hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history."
