Romney Tells Interviewer: No Questions About Abortion or Todd Akin

Anything he says can and will be used against him
Politics • Views: 20,155

Mitt Romney did an interview today with Denver CBS4 reporter Shaun Boyd — but refused to take any questions about abortion or Todd Akin. An instant classic… but man, how sad and pathetic it is to see journalists agreeing to restrictions like this.

It would probably be simpler if Romney just told interviewers what subjects they are allowed to ask him about. Much shorter list.

And no questions about Bain. And no questions about my taxes. And no questions about my time as governor of that sh$tty liberal state, Massachusetts.

Ask the questions anyway. Make him answer or walk away.

What a fucking embarrassment.

Women's issues are just a distraction put out there by the Obama campaign to divert attention from the way he's destroyed the economy

7 Mattand  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 1:00:07pm

Fine. Then hammer him for 10 minutes about his tax returns or have him explain why he doesn't campaign on his MA mandated health plan.

8 Bulworth  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 1:00:38pm

And no questions about my many policy flip-flops over the years between my 1994 Senate campaign and my presidential runs. 9/11 changed everything.

9 lawhawk  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 1:01:00pm

Not surprising - either on the journalist's timidity to ask hard questions, or on Romney pushing to make sure that the question isn't asked.

If a journalist wants the get, they've got to play along or else lose out to a competitor, even though there's more news to be made by asking the tough questions. But if you can't get the person to interview in the first place without the conditions in place, then that becomes newsworthy in its own right.

And this also undermines the notion of a vast liberal media elite - if they were vast, liberal, and part of some conspiracy to get Romney, they'd be asking all manner of gotcha questions. Instead, we get a puff piece.

10 Decatur Deb  Thu, Aug 23, 2012 1:01:31pm

Don't think the Obama campaign is going to wait for reporters to ask the questions. That's a nice piece of video--shame if it became an internet spot.

It's rather interesting to me the timing of this whole Akin mess and the huge split it's caused in the GOP. Just DAYS before the big convention, where the party pretty much had to shelve their disagreements and stand united behind Romney to have any chance in November.

We all knew it was coming, I just didn't expect it to blow up like this before the election.

Team Romney suffers from the same weakness as do Palin, Bachmann, Santorum, Cain, and other gutless political lightweights:

Mitt regards any reporter or interviewer who has the temerity to hold him accountable for his previously stated positions to be a bullying, biased member of a left-wing conspiracy, and he views any question for which is unwilling or unable to provide an honest, substantive question to be a "gotcha" question.

In short, Romney and his campaign staff feel that members of the news media should act as though they are working for his public relations department, only asking him the questions that he WANTS to be asked.

It's curious. Romney says that he is highly qualified to be POTUS based on his extensive experience as a "job creator" and fiscal manager while at Bain ... however we should not be allowed to analyze or critique said business experience, nor his ethics and values with respect to taxation policies.

Mitt to news media and Obama campaign:
"Don't discuss my personal finances, don't discuss my business practices, don't discuss my recent overseas trip, the socially conservative policies and legislative proposals of my running mate, and most of all, don't discuss my own policies and programs while Governor of Massachusetts."

Okay, let's talk about something totally benign ... "Mitt, how's Seamus? What? Don't talk about the dog either?"

After reading Caluori his Miranda rights, Molnar asked him if he knew why the police were at the scene.

"I think I do, but I don't want to say it," he said.
He was shown a copy of the e-mail to the FBI and, asked if he wrote it, said, "possibly," Molnar wrote.

Gaffney Upset that Jews, Gays and Feminists Haven't Embraced his Anti-Muslim Efforts

Yesterday on Secure Freedom Radio, Frank Gaffney hosted the vociferously anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-Obama Rabbi Aryeh Spero to discuss his new book, “Push Back: Reclaiming the American Judeo-Christian Spirit.” Gaffney asked Spero why women’s rights and gay rights advocates, along with “the Jews who make up many of the most visible members of the international or at least domestic left,” are “making common cause” with Islamists.

In Gaffney’s view, any opposition to efforts by him and other anti-Muslim activists to undermine the religious freedom and civil rights of Muslim-Americans is tantamount to the promotion of Sharia law and Islamism. Spero replied to Gaffney’s ridiculous question by claiming that the left has “partnered up with Islam” and have become “tools of Islam” in order to bring about “the destruction of Judeo-Christian ethos” and “the destruction of the historic American civilization.” Spero also falsely claimed that feminists and gay rights supporters are silent on abuses in Muslim-majority countries, which is of course not the case.

So are there no American journalists with the guts to say to Romney: "If you cannot answer my questions, I cannot interview you"?
Why are they playing his game? Is there a reason why Royal Highness Romney CANNOT answer questions dealing with relevant, current issues while he's running for the Presidency of the United States? Any reason?
So, is he going to dictate the questions that can be asked during the debates?

There's a world where Seamus hurls at 60 m.p.h.,
in my room....in my room

re: #91 Patricia Kayden

So are there no American journalists with the guts to say to Romney: "If you cannot answer my questions, I cannot interview you"?
Why are they playing his game? Is there a reason why Royal Highness Romney CANNOT answer questions dealing with relevant, current issues while he's running for the Presidency of the United States? Any reason?
So, is he going to dictate the questions that can be asked during the debates?

Because he'll take his interview-business to someone with less of a spine, and that interview pays the interviewer's bills.

Ask the questions anyway. Make him answer or walk away.

What a fucking embarrassment.

AMEN!

Can we talk to him about his dog?

But not about where it rode when he and his family travelled to Canada!!

Did you tell your coworker what a disgusting excuse for a human being he or she is?

No but the incident has me wondering about recording future conversations. He is the office snitch anyways.

It would serve him right if he received a visit from the Secret Service.

I grok what your are saying. I do think that the actual, historical political philosophy of conservatism actually has nothing to do with what we see now...which is right wing revolutionary religious populism. It is the antithesis of conservatism.

I think this is related to the many people erroneously calling themselves "Classical liberals" ...somehow. American Conservatism was and used to be a pole apart from Socialism and Liberalism, and it's really something seeing disaffected conservatives embrace the term.

The problem with houses that are built of cards is that ANY card getting pulled out of the house leaves everyone going, "Wow, who would imagine that that one thing would bring everything toppling down?"

"As a general matter, Todd Akin’s position on the issue is closer to the American mainstream than Obama’s."

Well, if you mean "I'm dumb, Akin is dumb, and the American people are dumb"...

Yeah.

Would have been great if she filled the whole segment with Akin and abortion and only show about 5 seconds of the interview.

re: #34 Expand re: #34 Expand Your Ground

Another right-wing gender-related WTF article:

Obama Girls vs Romney Boys

Your Ground

So that's the reason Mitt hasn't mentioned Dubya this whole time!

Perhaps Romney -- channeling Todd Akin's ignorance about the human body -- believes that the human brain shuts down when confronted with the stress of questions that it is not equipped to process.
