Witness the spectacle, if you will, of human-weasel hybrid Ben Shapiro vs. Piers Morgan. Morgan has done more than anyone in mainstream media to publicize the Breitbart-style far right, and I’m not sure that’s a good thing.

The entire right wing blogosphere is giving Shapiro virtual high fives for this belligerent performance; it was a “takedown,” Morgan was “schooled” and “crushed,” “cut down” and “owned” and “humiliated,” etc.

Shapiro’s trying to emulate Andrew Breitbart, obviously, and I must admit he has the smirking self-satisfied assholishness down, yet somehow manages to come off as even more unlikeable than his dead idol.

Putting aside Shapiro’s obnoxious personality, what’s interesting is that he makes it very clear once again that the ultimate right wing rationale behind stockpiling semi-automatic weapons is a loopy paranoid fear that they’re going to need them in an uprising against the US government. Yes, really.

Was just viewing this on the CNN site and had a bit of a go in the comments. Nice selection for the front page.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Nothing about a tyrannical government. Nope. A militia secures a free state against oppression from other states. How could it secure freedom from itself?

If my right arm doesn’t like what my left arm is doing I have the right to rip it off and beat my head with it!

I say that in half jest, because any such proposal would necessarily require far more regulation and invasive checking of firearms than is currently present or amenable to the right and the NRA.

He is, in short, willing to do or say ANYTHING to keep his show on the air. General Washington, who has various false quotes about guns floating around, put down the Whiskey Rebellion. Our founding fathers had no truck with armed anti-tax rebels.

By the way, the Wiki article was clearly gotten to by some hardcore revisionist conservative:

There was a town that passed an ordinance requiring residents to be armed years ago. I don’t believe they actually enforced it though.

As with most gun-nuts, they’re typically people who are actual terrified by most things in life, and the desire to own military-grade weaponry is just a projection of that fear. If the military or law enforcement ever came for them or their guns, they’d fire in panic or flee in terror.

I don’t think that this is something they fear. These people seem to actively fantasize about participating in some kind of armed “revolution” against the government. Presumably, they envision it playing out like Red Dawn. They think it would be exciting and fun.

Maybe they should take a break from the 80’s action movies, and go spend a week in Syria, and then we’ll see how fun they think such a conflict would be.

He’s referencing how the outgunned, out-armed, and out-numberd chechyans held off the russian army. Notionally it’s a model for Tea Party vs the US. As I hinted, it ignores the fact the Chechyans had a massive terrain advantage. Add they also had a near-unified population and were receiving support from other Islamic nations. The Tea Party may have the near-unified population, but not where they have terrain advantages.

One more add to this. The Chechyans post-USSR are not well off economically. Better to be free and starving…

Yeah, that had a lot to do with it. When the rebels are being provided gear, either what they scrounged or what they have shipped in from outside help, it’s easy to at least hold off a superior force for awhile. Of course, if you want to see what’s more likely to happen if these dipshits decide to “rise up” against the government, wiki “Ruby Ridge” and “Waco.”

True, but most of the time infantry don’t have overhead protection, so airburst is the better fusing for artillery shells. Urban and anti-bunker/fortress operations are limited exceptions to the rule.

Stalin succeeded Lenin to power, and Kim Jong-Il succeeded his father. Chiang Kai-Shek’s Kumintang government had been badly destabilized by the Japanese invasion of China (and the KMT had no small amount of evil in it), Castro overthrew Bastista (who was fairly evil, just not horrifically so) and Hitler’s becoming chancellor in Germany was the result of political maneuvering, not a popular uprising. Only in the cases of Idi Amin, Qaddafi, and Pol Pot was a really non-evil regime overthrown and only in the first two cases was it stable (the Lon Nol government was under intense Communist pressure right from the start).

These always crack me up. I shot at targets a lot - in fact, I was required to spend a minimum 2 hours a month (paid on work time, it was fun) at the range shooting at paper targets. After a few months, I was pretty good, lovely tight patterns most of the time.

in 1917, the different factions, that is mostly kerensky vs the soviets vs the bolsheviks, allied themselves with and manipulated various armed military units, but in the end it was not really arms or gunplay that brought down kerensky and installed lenin

Reminds me of the awful scurrilous Dredd Scott mention…


Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857)[4] - The court ruled Scott did not enjoy the protection of the Bill of Rights because of his racial background. However, in its ruling, it implies all free men do have the right to bear arms by indicating what would happen if he was indeed afforded full protection:

“It would give to persons of the negro race, … the right to enter every other State whenever they pleased, … the full liberty of speech in public and in private upon all subjects upon which its own citizens might speak; to hold public meetings upon political affairs, and to keep and carry arms wherever they went.”

Why are a few restrictions (waiting periods, databases, background checks) and even a few bans (ARs and high capacity mags) incompatible with the 2nd Amendment? Certainly no one’s right to self-defense is compromised if they are “limited” to owning all the other types of firearms available besides high capacity ARs. (That is unless you think Russia is planning to invade your house.)

Shapiro really shows his nuttiness when he begins talking about tyranny taking over America in 50-100 years (where did he get those numbers…his ass, I suppose). Even more irrationally, he seems to believe that ARs in civilian hands could be the crucial line of defense that prevents the establishment of such a tyranny. But if a tyrannical govt does arise and attempts to impose a dictatorship, the overall number of ARs in America is very unlikely to be the deciding factor. All the other types of weapons currently owned by civilians will do just as well, which means not well at all against the world’s most powerful military…a few thousand more ARs won’t tip the balance.

Shapiro’s fantasy of a 2nd American Revolution/Civil War is not only reckless, it reveals the character of someone who sees his side losing a cultural struggle and can’t come up with a nonviolent solution, so…war it must be.

What they came up with was called the STG-44. (predecessor of the AK-47) But the Nazis needed a special name for it, so it would strike fear in the Allies soldier’s minds. The Nazis were experts at propaganda. Joesph Gobbels, the Minister of Propaganda, Had a gift for deception and spinning the truth. He also was able to coin phases like “Wonder Weapons.” The name Hitler and Gobbels came up was “Sturmgewehr!!!” Which in German means “Storm Assault” thus it was adopted as Assault Weapon. Gobbels had a mentor before the Nazi Party took over and he became Propaganda Minister. His name……..President WOODROW WILSON!!! FATHER OF MODERN PROGRESSIVISM!!! Don’t believe me? Look it up for yourself.

This is history folks and we already know that progessives hate history because they have been trying to erase it for over 100 years by indoctrination of our children. “Like and Share”

For any useful purpose, “Assault Weapon” is legally defined in the law that established the lapsed Assault Weapons Ban.

(For the record, it was fairly useless, banning the tools I would need to mount a bayonet charge against a highschool.)

Teen charged with killing sister, 15, over video game

A 19-year-old Milwaukee man was charged Friday with fatally shooting his 15-year-old sister during an argument over a cellphone video game.

According to the criminal complaint:
Police arrived at a home in the 1500 block of W. Orchard St. about 4 a.m. Tuesday and discovered Brendalyz Morales in a living room chair, shot in the forehead. At the scene, her brother Miguell Morales-Rodriguez stated: “I shot my sister. I killed my sister.”

In subsequent interviews, the defendant said he had dropped a gun and it fired, striking his sister, then that he had pressed the magazine release button, and the gun fired, striking his sister, and finally, that he had been pointing the gun at his sister, with his finger on the trigger, when he touched the magazine release button it caused his finger to pull the trigger.

According to the complaint, detectives determined the gun was in good working order and that pressing the magazine release could not have caused it to fire.

Apparently there’s arms manufacturers out there still producing 7.92 Kurz because the Soviets spread these things far and wide after WWII. First to client states, then to communist rebel groups. No telling how these ended up in a crate in Syria.

“Close decision”? I find that to be mere posturing. Reasonable doubt was established when the staff was misinformed by L.E. If that law has no room for intent, as in a journalist trying to prevent more gun deaths with good solid public information, it’s a poorly worded law.

Possession of a magazine in the complete absence of a gun for pure journalistic purposes is not any threat to public safety at all. Unless it’s opposite day again already.

Of course DC is one of the few places where a gun law has been found to actually violate the second amendment. “Close decision” sounds like city bureaucracy ego to me.
