Senator Turd Cruz trying to distance himself from the crisis he created:
Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, meanwhile, was also seeking a bit of remove from the dust-up that he, more than anyone else, had forced. (Cruz kicked off the effort with a 21-hour verbal tour de force that included references to Nazis, the “Star Wars” empire and its rebels, and “Green Eggs and Ham.” Though, were he to stay in sync with the message of the Dr. Seuss masterpiece, he would have suggested at least trying Obamacare, not the opposite.)
“We’re in a shutdown for one reason,” he declared on Wednesday, blaming it all on the Democratic Senate leader. “Harry Reid wants a shutdown.”
Just keep telling yourself that, Turd. At least Fox “News” believes it.

Exactly. After several years of saying they were ‘giddy’ about the prospect of shutting down the government, now that it’s happened, and it turns out that the stuff government does is actually pretty popular, and helps a lot of people, they are trying to shift the blame.

The GOP in their blind hatred of anything supported by any Democrat anywhere finally were blindsided by a Tea Party candidate who they cheered on and called a leader. They brought rats on board their ship and now a very big rat has reared his rabid head. They wrought this, are afraid of it, and because they cater to the lowest possible common denominator of stupid, ignorant, bigoted and mean they are unable to control their rat population. Now we suffer from the inability of any sanity in the Cult once called the GOP. 2014 can’t get here soon enough.

GOP Rep Says ‘Dang Straight’ He’ll Collect His Paycheck During Shutdown
Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE) made it clear to the Omaha World-Herald in a story published Friday that he would collect his salary during the government shutdown.
“Dang straight,” Terry said when the newspaper asked whether he would collect his pay during the shutdown, adding that he thought the question was irrelevant because the budget crisis would be resolved shortly.
Asked about other members of Congress who announced they would either donate their pay to charity or forego paychecks for the duration of the shutdown, Terry suggested it was all for show.
“Whatever gets them good press. That’s all that it’s going to be,” he told the newspaper. “God bless them. But you know what? I’ve got a nice house and a kid in college, and I’ll tell you we cannot handle it. Giving our paycheck away when you still worked and earned it? That’s just not going to fly.”

Abortion opponents turned in 315,477 signatures to the Secretary of State today that would require insurance companies and health plans to offer separate riders if a customer wants to get abortion coverage.
The state has to certify that at least 258,088 of the signatures are valid. After that happens, the petition would go to the state Legislature to approve or reject.
If it’s approved, as appears likely — in Michigan’s strongly anti-abortion legislature — that the measure would automatically become law. Gov. Rick Snyder wouldn’t have the chance to review or veto the legislation.

The Democratic senator said Americans and their congressional representatives haven’t asked that regulators stop ensuring the safety of goods and products.
“In fact, whenever the ‘anarchy gang’ makes headway in their efforts to damage our government, the opposite happens,” Warren said.
Warren pointed out that, after automatic budget cuts kicked in earlier this year, Republicans immediately called for maintaining national defense spending and keeping air traffic controllers on the job.

I’m reminded of the “right-wing view of government” pie chart, which is a tiny sliver of “things that benefit me directly” and then 99% of “waste”.

Now if we can get him to vote with the Dems, all will be good, I’ve already called his office and e-mailed him about it… I would urge you to do so as well.
Barber is a Dem, and further left than Giffords. He needs no encouragement. This district is several border counties who see lots of federal dollars and also includes two military installations (Davis-Mothan AFB and Fort Huachuca).

I have never seen an episode of Breaking Bad. I would be tempted to, but the sheer volume of hipster journalists creaming themselves over the greatest narrative arc since Homer* is a bit off-putting.
* What am I talking about? BETTER than Homer, obv.
I will say this, whoever set up this shot did so beautifully.

That’s a Daisy Cutter of a bill (not quite a nuclear option, but devastating to GOP dreams of using budget renewal for what wingnuts like to call “leverage”)…auto-renewal of CRs with a 1% drop every 90 days. 1% is a big chunk of money, but it prevents shut downs going forward.

then why did he vote No? I’ve worked the phones for him and Gabby both, donated to the campaign and yet…..he was one of a handful of votes that sided with the R’s on the CR (and so was Sinema).

I had to warm up to Breaking Bad, but I ended up loving it. As much as you can love a violent show about meth and sickness and family and dysfunction and crazy shit.
The song playing in the last scene is perfect too, IMO (edited to remove spoilers, I realize some people haven’t seen it all yet, sorry)

The last scene where Walt is dying and the song “Baby Blue” by Badfinger was playing was perfect, IMO. I hope Jesse Pinkman lives happily ever after too.
I didn’t watch it till a few weeks ago. Caught up to season 5 on Netflix then watched it from there.

re: #83 ObserverArt
Well, they did it didn’t they. They actually found in Marsha Blackburn a replacement for Michele Bachmann.
Barring lightning or a crosstown bus hitting her, Blackburn’s in a very safe, very gerrymandered seat, one that, despite covering quite a bit of traditionally-Democratic territory in west TN (including many of the counties south of I-40 between Memphis/Shelby County and Nashville/Davidson County), has gone solidly GOP since 1982 with little more than token Democratic resistance since the 2002 election that gave Blackburn her seat. If not for Williamson County (directly south of Nashville/Davidson County and one of the wealthiest counties in the US), Fayette County (another of TN’s wealthiest counties, directly east of Memphis/Shelby County) and Montgomery County (northwest of Nashville/Davidson County and home of Fort Campbell and the 101st Airborne), three very solidly GOP counties, Blackburn’s seat wouldn’t be so safe.
As it is, she’ll have that seat as long as she wants it or until she dies; that’s what makes her presence in the House so dangerous.

I think they are attempting to use sarcasm to mock democrats and win public favor, because they see democrats like Patty Murray (yay WA!) offering to join in on a group hug if it’ll make Republican feelings less hurt and pass the budget, and public response to those have been great for Democrats and not so much for Republicans.
What they don’t understand is comments like that are in response to ridiculously egotistical/petty statements by Republicans, and they are sarcastically mocking those statements by offering sarcastic solutions to those statements to further highlight the pettiness. The ACA, and Obama’s comments about it/the shutdown have not been ridiculous nor egotistical nor petty, so this just makes those Republicans look even more petty.

OT to your comment, but that’s beautiful country and I loved the summer I spent at the Army Intel School at Ft. Huachuca. If there wasn’t already way too many people for the water supply to support, I’d consider retiring there

I’m just seeing a lot of wingnut derp. He seems to have some kind of disorder that causes him to constantly tweet and retweet Republican propaganda. I hope it’s a staffer actually doing it, because I’d hate to think that this clown fucks off on the Internet all day while we’re paying him.

It appears he voted to accept the CR with the proviso delaying the individual mandate for a year. While I don’t agree with that, I wouldn’t call that a “no”
“Barber told me Tuesday, just before that conference call, that he supported the delay in the individual mandate in part because the administration has already delayed imposing penalties for businesses that do not provide health insurance. If the Senate had passed the bill Barber voted for, it would have meant that people who do not sign up for health insurance in the first year of the program would not be fined.
Delaying “the individual mandate is not about torpedoing or destroying the Affordable Care Act, which I support in the main,†Barber said.”

Well, I got an interview with a recruiter next week, and I’ve got another company which is opening some offices in LA who say they’re going to get back to me when they see what they need up there.
Got to get me a suit again. Haven’t worn one since 2002.
Think outside of the box and really impress them…
Wear a kilt!
