New York State Is Set to Loosen Marijuana Laws
ALBANY — Joining a growing group of states that have loosened restrictions on marijuana, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of New York plans this week to announce an executive action that would allow limited use of the drug by those with serious illnesses, state officials say.
(snip)
“Mr. Cuomo’s plan will be far more restrictive than the laws in Colorado or California, where medical marijuana is available to people with conditions as mild as backaches. It will allow just 20 hospitals across the state to prescribe marijuana to patients with cancer, glaucoma or other diseases that meet standards to be set by the New York State Department of Health.
“While Mr. Cuomo’s measure falls well short of full legalization, it nonetheless moves New York, long one of the nation’s most punitive states for those caught using or dealing drugs, a significant step closer to policies being embraced by marijuana advocates and lawmakers elsewhere. “

And it’s usually performed at a much slower tempo. Here’s a violin version:

I swear, I have never heard of a 3 yr having root canals. This is very sad, esp considering that her mother is a nurse. Wouldn’t she have known that the sedatives needed for these procedures would be too much for a toddler? This dentist was very irresponsible in recommending these procedures, IMHO.

I’ve heard of parents spending large sums of cash on their kid’s teeth at a very young age. Caps, crowns, veneers, etc. Never heard of root canals for a 3 year old, though.

There were dentists in Charlotte who got in trouble for pretty much the same thing. Kids on Medicaid were having these procedures done and having metal caps put on their teeth. A friend of my son’s young son had that done because he had “bottle mouth” from Juice bottles being stuck in his mouth all the time up until he was almost 4. It was awful.
Those baby teeth don’t even have roots, and the only way they get in that condition is from poor dietary habits and lack of brushing, etc. My 4 yr old g-grandson just had his first check up and has perfect teeth because he gave up the bottle totally at 1 yr and has brushed his teeth since they started popping. Plus, few sweets, and diluted fruit drinks (10% usually). I know genetics sometimes figures in, but not to the point that it gets that extreme.

That’s how Colorado started. After a few years of medical marijuana without anything scary happening, we voted to legalize.
Interestingly, the state legislature was very much against this. They were always trying to narrow and limit medical marijuana and now they are grumpy about legalization. Perhaps the new tax revenue will sweeten their dispositions.

There’s a lot of blame to go around. The little girl also had 10 cavities—at 3 yrs old. It’s just a real tragedy.
No one at the dental office knew CPR evidently. Wouldn’t the mother, a nurse, have known it? Wouldn’t the dentist? It sounded like when the little girl went into cardiac arrest, there was a lot of panic and no one knew what to do.

Sigh…why reason, logic, and self-awareness are incompatible with organized religion, example No.# 3478…
If the Devil makes people homosexual, he makes people heterosexual too.
I sure as fuck wasn’t born heterosexual. If I was, then why is it that I get a boner from thinking about guys and not girls? If all people are naturally heterosexual, then why is it that I have no natural attraction to people of the opposite sex? Answer me that.
For the umpteenth time, you’ve just succumbed to sin and temptation. I have succumbed to temptation for men multiple times, and I really wish I could just go spend the rest of my life with another guy, but the fact is that I can’t. I can’t because my God says so, and I obey him.

Ok, lets say you’re beheaded under Obamacare, and you can’t afford the deductible? Do they sew your head back on again? ///
I’ve seen this one pop up a couple of times now. Of course once you try and point on that it’s an international standard, I’ve heard “So it’s true, the UN is taking over.” It’s like the “FEMA COFFINS” story at an undisclosed location. Well, IMSM, it very quickly was show that the location was know, and they were burial vaults at a supplier.
The utter lack of ability for some on the right to accept that sometimes a fact is a fact scares and depresses me at times.

cc @TinaBrownLM Study: Why Pot Smokers Are Skinnier - Atlantic Mobile http://t.co/5z0oWo8vxQ— Tim Dickinson (@7im) January 5, 2014
[…]Current marijuana users had significantly smaller waist circumference than participants who had never used marijuana, even after adjusting for factors like age, sex, tobacco and alcohol use, and physical activity levels. They also had higher levels of HDL (“good cholesterol”). The most significant differences between those who smoked marijuana and those who never or no longer did was that current smokers’ insulin levels were reduced by 16 percent and their insulin resistance (a condition in which the body has trouble absorbing glucose from the bloodstream) was reduced by 17 percent.
People who had previously used marijuana, but not in the past thirty days, tended to have similar outcomes, but to a much lesser degree. In addition, none of these measures were impacted by how much marijuana people reported smoking.

Sorry, Tina, that boat has left the harbor. Americans are already fatter, lazier and dumber than the Chinese.
Fat: America has an obesity problem. China, not so much. Also, the Chinese diet is heavy on vegetables, light on meat and dairy.
Lazier: As near as I can tell, few people in China stay up past 11 pm and most wake up before 7 am, regardless of what day it is. They don’t complain about working 10-hour shifts, 6 days a week. In fact, they’d probably work 24/7 if they could. [Who do you think helped build America’s Transcontinental Railroad through the Rockies?]
Dumber: Chinese kids do better on global math and science exams than Americans the same age. And which country just landed a rover on the Moon?
American exceptionalism misses an important point: we’re not the only big player in the world anymore. Tina’s concerns are duly noted, but she’s taken a long time to notice reality.

As a musician from a family of musicians I agree that classical music gets too stiff and museum like. what’s wrong with cheering a little and getting into it a little. If the orchestra really hits the first four notes of Beethoven’s 5th what’s wrong with a big cheer? I have heard audiences clap to Brahms’ Hungarian Dances before. Does anyone remember the late organist Virgil Fox? He did sometimes create a rock concert like atmosphere in his concerts with comments to the audience etc. Mozart would probably approve. Certain soprano’s already act a bit like rock stars off the stage so what the heck?
