Senate to Vote on Whether Climate Change Is Real

Senate Democrats led by Bernie Sanders have proposed a measure designed to make Republicans go on the record as climate change deniers: Senate to Vote on Whether Climate Change Is Happening.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Tuesday he will allow the Senate to vote on an amendment asking if they agree that climate change is impacting the planet.

[…]

But a measure proposed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) had raised questions about whether he would stick to that commitment.

The Sanders measure asks whether lawmakers agree with the overwhelming consensus of scientists who say climate change is impacting the planet and is worsened by human-caused greenhouse gas emissions.

Democrats believe the measure could be a tough vote for some Republicans, particularly GOP senators running for reelection in 2016 in states carried by President Obama in 2012.

I predict the Republicans will have no problem coming right out with a public denial of the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change. This is absolutely mainstream Republican head-in-the-sand policy, and they’ll all toe the line or risk being labeled a RINO. It’s also completely insane and irrational, and seriously dangerous.

Maybe after they vote that climate change isn’t real, the next vote should be on whether the Earth is round or flat.

I wonder which looms larger in their mind of minds; Religion bought by money or money dressed up by religion. Kudos to Bernie to attempt to get their views onto hard copy. For posterity. And reality. By todays standards, if there are any left in that rare air that the chosen breathe, Jonas Salk was a buffoon. All that cash left on the table…..

I sure hope they vote against it so we can all take a sigh of relief and climate scientists can move on to something far more important, reality tv.

I take it that if enough ice melts into the Arctic ocean to make the water too light to sink and feed the deep thermohaline circulation, no new water is needed to replace it, the Gulf Stream shuts down (as it did for a few hours in 2004) and a new Ice Age begins, they’ll say they were right all along?

Well he was invited so I figure he certainly has some anti-gay sentiments. Maybe they saw his name on a list of prominent conservative/Republican actors and thought he would be a good fit. I dunno. I guess I’ll give him the bod until he proves he’s a jackass like Adam Baldwin or Nick Searcy.

I am aware of that but that doesn’t prove he’s anti gay. Clint Eastwood spoke at the last RNC and Clint to his credit isn’t anti gay rights at all. Bruce Willis is another celeb who identifies as right wing or “libertarian” but isn’t anti gay. I know Sinise is right wing but I don’t know if he’s anti-gay. I do love the irony of FOA likening hte IRS to McCarthyism given that FOA’s ancestors. I.E groups like the Alliance for American Ideals were happy to comply with the real McCarthy when ti came to removing anyone with left wing ideals from Hollywood. I guess irony is lost on people like Sinise.

His publicist issued this statement:

“For me, faith has been a catalyst for my mission to honor the men and women who serve in our nation’s military. When I accepted the invitation to speak at the Legatus conference on Veterans issues and share my story, I was unaware of the controversy surrounding some of the participants, and their views on personal matters. I don’t want my mission—which is designed to be unifying—to be disrupted by these, or any controversies, and therefore have decided to withdraw.”

So he doesn’t want his organization to be linked with them. So, he could yeah still share their views but not want his org which seems to be non-partisan to be distracted by associating with an anti gay organization which I’ll give him grudging props for given that there’s LGBT people in the military. FOA still sounds like a moronic group but that’s another story.

I can’t believe this crap. It’s the 21st century and the congress of a Western country that’s listed among the top ten developed countries of the world and is its current leading superpower is voting on whether or not climate change is real. It’s sooooo embarrassing.

Next month: The U.S. Congress will vote on whether or not our solar system is really heliocentric. If they decide it’s geocentric, then all school textbooks will be modified to reflect the new reality. Any dissenters will be burned at the stake.

32 HappyWarrior  Jan 13, 2015 3:27:59pm

Can you imagine how painfully boring and sad these anti-gay events must be? The only thing really uniting these people is how much they hate people who just happen to be attracted sexually to members of the same sex. Sounds like a lonely life. No wonder why the prostitutes get a ton of business when these groups come to town.

To be fair, people who see demons in homosexuality do think of famine, disease, and war as demonic acts, as well. They just don’t talk about those so much because it’s so much easier to get into a gay person’s face and yell “THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELS YOU!”

That’s what I was getting at referencing the prostitution. I almost feel bad for them but then again I see them likening giving gay people the same rights in marriage as me to Nazism and it just makes me angry and then of course their praise of an authoritarian douchebag, Putin simply because Putin is a fellow conservative Christian. I think though I’d die of laughter if Putin ended up being another repressed right wing closet case.
