Donald Trump’s Energy Guru: An Anti-Science Climate Change Denier, of Course

The Republican Party’s war on science and the environment
Politics • Views: 55,879

In addition to everything else wrong about Donald Trump — the racism, the conspiracy theories, the xenophobia, the sheer ignorance about foreign policy, the misogyny — he’s a climate change denier. Of course. Almost all Republicans are.

And now he’s picked as his energy guru a very well-known climate change denier like himself, North Dakota Rep. Kevin Cramer, described in this quote from Reuters as a “skeptic.”

Cramer is no “skeptic.” He’s a booster of fracking and hard core anti-science oil industry shill who answered “No” when asked if he believes human activity contributes to climate change

WASHINGTON, May 13 (Reuters) - Republican presidential contender Donald Trump has asked one of America’s most ardent drilling advocates and climate change skeptics to help him draft his energy policy.

U.S. Republican Congressman Kevin Cramer of North Dakota - a major oil drilling state - is writing a white paper on energy policy for the New York billionaire, Cramer and sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Cramer was also among a group of Trump advisers who recently met with lawmakers from western energy states, who hope Trump will open more federal land for drilling, a lawmaker who took part in the meeting said.

Cramer explained his disbelief in human-caused climate change like this:

“The manipulation of free markets by economic policy disguised as environmental policy based on inconclusive science should not be tolerated. Free people producing energy other free people want and are willing to pay for should be the core of U.S. energy policy.”

So not only is DT unqualified, all the people he picks for his team are going to share his level of qualification

How fitting that the party that swears all the time that it believes in personal responsibility has as its nominee a man whose campaign seems built around the idea that America has no responsibilities whatsoever. It can spend how it likes and the debt-holders are the ones who should be happy just to get any money from us. We can stomp around the globe and should expect love for it. And now we can pollute the planet as we like and there is no reason to believe that doing so will have negative consequences.

Honestly, what else would you expect out of Trump?

Apologies for the early OT, but another death in Texas thanks to no stinkin’ government regulation:

A Texas group is calling for the state government to make sure the safety standards for amusement park rides are strictly enforced.

This after a 16-year-old high school student died after being thrown from a ride in El Paso.

“It’s a huge gap in safety”, said Alex Winslow.

Consumer advocates in Texas question the safety of the rides we enjoy.

He resigned over their treatment of Michelle Fields, apparently. He’s a big Trump supporter so that wasn’t it, and he’s never been troubled at all by the blatant racism at the site. He’s still a gigantic jerk.

Here is the corrected quote, what he actually means in his rambling, incoherent rant:

“I adhere to Libertarianism, an ultimately childish infantile ideology that believes in a Utopia where everything just sort of magically takes care of itself. In addition, as opposed to the lie that Liberatarians and by default, modern Republicans promote personal responsibility and recognition of other people’s rights and properties, I offer that it is far better to deny any responsibility, hire quacks and hacks to try and dispel hard Science and actual scientific proof and evidence, and ignore any such responsibility for actions that affect other people.”

There. Fixed.

While new low temperature records for this date were set throughout our NWS region, and most of those low temps were below freezing, somehow the frost managed to miss us here in the backwoods.
I was up at 3:30 a.m. ready to start spraying water on things as soon as there was the least indication of frost starting, but it didn’t happen.
My early garden and fruit trees/bushes/vines are all very happy.

Wendell Pierce (from The Wire), a Hillary supporter, allegedly assaulted a couple who said they were voting for Bernie.

Like with Maddow, Pierce has been a fan of Sanders for months, made arguments for his candidacy and in support of his continuing to run after it became obvious he wasn’t going to win, and has gone after the DNC for the perception that they rigged the game in Hillary’s favor. But now both are realizing that Bernie is destroying whatever good will he had built up, not simply in the party but with voters, and its time for him to drop out. Given his last line, I think even Pierce at this point realizes that a lot of his assumptions about Bernie are proving to have been mistakes.

Sanders might even be hurting himself with Dem’s in his next Senate run if the Dem’s run anyone against him.

It would be awesome if he lost his senate seat to a Dem. I hope there’s someone in VT that the DNC can run against him.

I think that ship has sailed by this point. Sanders has given the DNC plenty of reason to want him gone from the Senate come 2018. They allowed him to run when they could have denied him the opportunity and he’s done nothing since but repeatedly shit on the rug while railing against them for shit being on the rug. If there’s anything positive that might come out of all this, it’s that he’s reinforcing in a lot of people’s minds the conclusion that ignoring the dudebro wing of the party was the right choice.

I was talking about Dem voters, I know the DNC is sick of him.

I sent money to his reelection fund a few years back, But never again.
