We are indeed watching a campaign that is in complete and total meltdown. The bad part for the GOP is they let it get this far. A campaign this inept and poorly run would have been smothered into its crib if the GOP were a functional and sane party. But they’re not, they long ago became an asylum where the inmates are in control. Contrary to the predictions of the Bros, it looks like it’s the GOP that is headed for a schism and a rending of garments when this campaign comes crashing down Election Night.

That is if they weren’t in total denial about all of it, and Trump’s busy claiming that the election will be stolen out from under his grasp because of “those folks” - who as anyone with a functioning neuron notes - are minorities in inner cities like Philly (as he was campaigning in PA for instance).

That seems to be the biggest positive of this election. The threat of a Trump presidency is pretty much passed, so now what remains is watching him become an ever-increasing drag on the Congressional GOP. We may very well watch the White House and Congress slip from their grasp this year.

That’s a far more difficult task due to gerrymandered districts. In fact, 2018 will become a test for GOP to see if they’ve learned anything from 2016, other than No True GOPer? They will conduct the autopsy and then decide the only way to win is to be even more extreme than they were this year.
Count on that. They are too far gone to consider anything else, like being wrong about writing off minorities, women, or that we as a nation value safety net, and items included in Obamacare even if you don’t like the name Obamacare.

Well, FWIW, the Party didn’t have much choice - not without alienating such a large part of their base that the devastating split wouldn’t have occurred sooner rather than later. Trump got the GOP nom legitimately (by a solid plurality of votes/majority of delegates): but had his own (incompetent) team in place running his campaign: as much against the Party as for it. A more experienced and less egomaniacal candidate might have done better mending fences and integrating his operations - but instead, they got Donald J. Trump: Wannabe Duce. Sad.
Yes, Trump Is a Fascist — Here’s the Checklist
The Donald is a unique threat to American democracyby MATTHEW GAULT
Words have meaning. When I called Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a fascist in a recent article for War Is Boring, I meant it. I did not mean “dictatorial,” though he is. I did not mean “authoritarian,” though he is. I meant fascist — a practitioner of virulent and horrifying ideology that poisons everything it touches.
In the 12 hours since 2016’s second presidential debate on Oct. 9, Trump supporters have employed the common language of fascists and called me a cockroach and a parasite, accused me of harboring an unfair bias against Trump and told me I don’t know what “fascism” even means.
They’re right about my bias. I am against Trump. He’s a unique threat to American democracy — a fascist, wannabe dictator who, even with his plummet in the polls, is entirely too close to the becoming the most powerful person on the planet.
I’m well aware of the full meaning of “fascism.” The label fits Trump perfectly. It’s easy to prove.

Not because of Eco (who was not a specialist on fascism), but because palingenesis - the part of the definition of fascism as palingenetic ultranationalism - presupposes a wholesale restructuring of society/state, and insofar Trump thinks that Hillary will go to jail merely on his order after he is in power, his worldview seems to assume such a restructuring.

Rep. Duncan Hunter pushes Coast Guard to procure a ship it doesn’t want — owned by a top campaign donor
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine) has been pushing the U.S. Coast Guard to buy or lease a polar ice-breaking ship owned by one of his top campaign contributors, although officials repeatedly have said the vessel doesn’t meet the service’s needs.
The ship in question, the Aiviq, is a privately owned, commercial vessel with mid-level ability to break paths through frozen Arctic seas. It made national news in 2012 when it suffered mechanical failure and lost control of an oil rig it was towing. The rig ran aground off Kodiak Island in Alaska.
The Coast Guard says the Aiviq does not meet its needs, in particular because the vessel lacks military capabilities. Hunter has argued that the ship is a necessary and viable fleet option as melting polar ice opens the region to commercial traffic, putting more ships at risk.
Contributors connected to the Aiviq’s owner, Louisiana-based shipbuilder Edison Chouest Offshore, have given at least $18,000 to Hunter’s campaign since January 2015.
Look at the service you get for a measly $18,000.

So, if I’m reading this right, he paid $264K for tax bills incurred by two of his business as charitable expenses? The recipient recorded them correctly as coming from the business, so the only question left to determine if this was illegal self dealing or sloppy bookkeeping is to determine if the checks where cut by the charity or his businesses. Hard to see why he’d record them as coming from the charity and filing that in his reports unless that’s where the money came from.

I started really noticing the problems last fall when he threatened the freedom of the press and hinted that people he didn’t like “would have some problems, believe me”.
Then, of course, he managed to actually put together the classic 1920’s Italian model of left and right wing economic ideas thrown together without any thought of compatibility or reason according to what a crowd seemed to respond to on any given day…the “rigid discombobulation” that should fall apart but gets held in place by the cult of personality and the particular cultural desires of the moment.

Just looked at this.
Palingenetic ultranationalism is a theory concerning generic fascism formulated by British political theorist Roger Griffin.[1][2] The key elements are that fascism can be defined by its core myth, namely that of “national rebirth” — palingenesis.[1][2] Griffin argues that the unique synthesis of palingenesis and ultranationalism differentiates fascism from para-fascism and other authoritarian nationalist ideologies.[1][2] This is what he calls the “fascist minimum” without which there is no fascism.[1][2] Rejection of the democratic order is an important feature of facism.[3]
If we use this as a guide…then we hit this part Rejection of the democratic order is an important feature of facism. a few days after the first debate when he disavowed any election result that does not produce a victory for him.

It’s a record: 15 million Texans registered for Nov. 8 election
More Texans than ever are registered and ready to vote in the upcoming Nov. 8 election.
New numbers released today show that a record 15 million Texas voters signed up to cast ballots in the election next month that will determine who the next president is — as well as decide officeholders throughout the state, preliminary state estimates show.
[…]
That’s more than the 13.6 million voters signed up to vote in 2012 and the 13.5 million signed up in 2008, state records show.
[…]
I remain skeptical that this surge will flip Texas, though.

I’m fairly certain bankers and the media would also fall under the “cabal of Jews” umbrella. Blacks not so much, but everyone knows the Jews are in cahoots with the blacks, Muslims, etc. //
What’s sickening is that they don’t notice that what they’re being sold is the same stuff as people in Germany, Italy and Spain got sold, it’s merely been rebadged and has a much snazzier graphics and paint job. Like, change Black and Jew to Muslim, Gaystapo, Globalist and Lib in a pattern which isn’t 1:1, and you have much of what the right is pushing these days.
Even more sickening is the realization that genocide was in the back of the theorists and ideologues minds way before the Wannsee conference, maybe as much as 20 years before, only they never were in a position of enough power to contemplate it as an option they could actually carry out.

The audience wants this, because it reflects their worldview: that everything is against them, that nothing is good because they are uncomfortable, that all their hatefulness and cruel impulses are actually righteous anger…because their only base assumption, their only “truth” is that they are the only important people, and everyone else should defer to them.
Trump’s fans have switched from denouncing the permissive society to demanding a permissive dictator.

Trump found his “special prosecutor”.
You mean he’s cheating on Chris Christie with Giuliani - AGAIN?!

The crowd was still booing him when we came on stage…
One of my favorite scenes in any movie. ‘love to talk, but we have to wait in the lobby.’

Seems to be thinning out quite a bit, too.
It’s all that spinning of strawmen from gold.

This is the theory that Cernovich started, that Dan Senor and his wife were behind the leak of the tape. It’s quickly taken off and been incorporated into a vast antisemitic conspiracy theory.

What’s amazing is that the GOP can nominate this despicable thug, watch him and his sick mob of enablers unleash anti-Semitism to a degree not seen for decades - and then turn around and accuse Obama of betraying Israel!

150 inches of snow forecasted on the upper reaches of Mt. Baker. Yeesh!
20 ” of rain possible in the lower areas if I read right. Not looking good.
Add to that the wind. I get to walk to the pick up point tomorrow morning in this shit.
Happy Happy, Joy, Joy.

If anyone needs a break from the horrors of Trumpism, this is a nice story about an ordinary person showing what decency and empathy can do:

It seats 17500. The ice surface area isn’t included in that count.
re: #270 GlutenFreeJesus
Why stop there? I’ve heard that ROOMBA is enabling voter fraud even as we speak. Thousands of voters are claiming that they did the housework when it was really just a machine!

No, I was rounding the concert count of 17,556. That includes the ice surface.

BLM IS WELL FUNDED. SOROS IS FUNDING THEM TO FOMENT INSTABILITY IN SOCIETY SO THE WORLD GOVERNMENT CAN TAKE OVER. I SAW IT ON FACEBOOK!
Tony Rezco and Bill Ayers were a nice touch too. If they’d added ALINKSY it would have been a hat trick.
