Wow.

I don’t think Trump knows what he is messing with here. John Lewis is NOT someone you want to mess with and is about the last fucking person anyone should accuse of being “no action”.

Donald Trump plus Twitter may equal the end of America.

Gaming out what will happen when Trump gives his State of the Union address and John Lewis stands up and turns his back on Trump…as Democrats walk out of the speech one at a time…

What we’ve got here in America right now is a foe that has been organizing for decades, a large chunk of the population that doesn’t think a lot of what happens in DC affects them, and a huge number of us on the right side of things that are going to get organized pretty quickly. Are we going to suffer casualties? Yes. But we’re going to come out of it because while Trump is the logical outcome of Republican choices, the outcome of their choices shows everything they stand for to be morally bankrupt. And, unlike the early 1900s, there are more of us to stand up for everyone.

His current remarks are continuous with his on-the-trail claims that basically every AA part of the country was a violent, collapsing inner city.

It’s because his audience isn’t the person he addressed—be that all “the blacks” or just John Lewis—it’s his merry band of condescending twats who desperately need to believe that it’s true, because they’re driven by schadenfreude.

He really isn’t that smart politically. I’m hoping that perhaps it could be turned into a 1994/2010 like election in 2018. But the electorate has to cooperate. If they truly do disaprove of him and his party, they need to be out there in force to vote against them.

Let America be America again.
Let it be the dream it used to be.
Let it be the pioneer on the plain
Seeking a home where he himself is free.

(America never was America to me.)

Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed—
Let it be that great strong land of love
Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme
That any man be crushed by one above.

(It never was America to me.)

O, let my land be a land where Liberty
Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath,
But opportunity is real, and life is free,
Equality is in the air we breathe.

(There’s never been equality for me,
Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”)

Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark?
And who are you that draws your veil across the stars?

I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart,
I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars.
I am the red man driven from the land,
I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek—
And finding only the same old stupid plan
Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak.

I am the young man, full of strength and hope,
Tangled in that ancient endless chain
Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land!
Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need!
Of work the men! Of take the pay!
Of owning everything for one’s own greed!

I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
I am the worker sold to the machine.
I am the Negro, servant to you all.
I am the people, humble, hungry, mean—
Hungry yet today despite the dream.
Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers!
I am the man who never got ahead,
The poorest worker bartered through the years.

Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream
In the Old World while still a serf of kings,
Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true,
That even yet its mighty daring sings
In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned
That’s made America the land it has become.
O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas
In search of what I meant to be my home—
For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore,
And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea,
And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came
To build a “homeland of the free.”

The free?

Who said the free? Not me?
Surely not me? The millions on relief today?
The millions shot down when we strike?
The millions who have nothing for our pay?
For all the dreams we’ve dreamed
And all the songs we’ve sung
And all the hopes we’ve held
And all the flags we’ve hung,
The millions who have nothing for our pay—
Except the dream that’s almost dead today.

O, let America be America again—
The land that never has been yet—
And yet must be—the land where every man is free.
The land that’s mine—the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME—
Who made America,
Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain,
Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain,
Must bring back our mighty dream again.

Sure, call me any ugly name you choose—
The steel of freedom does not stain.
From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives,
We must take back our land again,
America!

O, yes,
I say it plain,
America never was America to me,
And yet I swear this oath—
America will be!

Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death,
The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies,
We, the people, must redeem
The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers.
The mountains and the endless plain—
All, all the stretch of these great green states—
And make America again!

Langston Hughes

You guys should check out this amazing summary that someone posted over at the gaming forum NeoGAF — perhaps the most concrete and best corroboration of anything in the dossier I’ve seen yet:

Ex Mi-6 agent Chris Steele’s 35 page long opposition research dossier on Trump is dated October 18th and has this bombshell in it:

Russian State Oil Company CEO Sechin (who is part of Putin’s inner circle) offered Trump/Page associates 19% stake in Rosneft if personal and state sanctions were lifted.

SOURCE: Image: XXKR2iM.jpg

On November 7th, Russia signed the deal to sell 19.5% of its stake in Rosneft - which amounts to $11 billion - to Glencore Plc and Qatar sovereign wealth fund.

Commodity trader Glencore Plc and Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund agreed to buy a 10.2-billion euro ($11 billion) stake in Russia’s largest oil producer from the state in a triumph for President Vladimir Putin over sanctions imposed by the West.

SOURCE: bloomberg.com

What a coincidence, on December 26th: A top executive of Rosneft Oleg Erovinkin, also a former FSB agent, was found dead, with no official cause of death.

SOURCE: dailysabah.com

Starting in September, it was reported that Carter Page would be ‘advising Trump on energy policy and Russia’, and has been probed by the US regarding ties to Russian leaders. Page also has ties with executives at Gazprom through his assistance in advising ‘some of its biggest deals in the past decade’. Gazprom is the investment bank that funded the 19.5% purchase of the Rosneft stake by Glencore.

SOURCE: uk.finance.yahoo.com

“Trump’s mystery man in Moscow”

And then we have this:
The head of Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund said it would invest $10 billion in unspecified infrastructure projects inside the United States in response to Donald Trump. Qatar was part of the sale of the 19.5% of Rosneft.

SOURCE: reuters.com

Bonus round:

Rudy Guiliani’s law firm also has Rosneft as a client.

SOURCE: bloomberg.com

They also advise Qatar’s state run oil company:

Carter Page, who has worked for several years in Moscow for Merrill Lynch is tied to that Glencore fund.

also Page seeing opportuniities in Russia:

SOURCE: reuters.com

And in an interview from January 14th with the WSJ, Trump still going on about lifting sanctions as soon as Russia is nice and helps with the fight against terrorists.

DoublePlusGood bonus round:

Trump’s SOS pick Rex Tillerson has excellent ties to Sechin/Rosneft

I was considering doing so. I think I’ll wait until a few months after the inauguration to see how the various news outlets report on things. If the American media can’t stop the stupid groveling & MBF crap, then I’m not averse to buying a subscription to a Canadian or European paper.

If I had the money, I’d get The Economist again. I make do with the BBC instead.

There is no fully trustworthy mainstream media in America except, so far, Teen Vogue. So what money I do have has been going to sane religious voices - Sojourners, Tikkun, and the like.

HOLY CRAP this is fifty shades of creepy.
washingtonpost.com

This talks about a Website called FamilyTreeNow (dot) com, which bills itself as a genealogy research Website.

Anyone can look at it with no sign ups and no fees whatsoever. The Washington Post article tells about the site and how to opt-out.

I looked up my name - holy crap, they have every address I lived at for the last twenty years or so, every person in my family associated with me, friends, roommates, you name it.

The opt-out procedure is a bit convoluted; the instructions are given at the link in the Washington Post article.

I would strongly recommend if you value privacy (especially if you have haters, wingnuts, ex-boyfriend/girlfriend/crazy ex-hub or wife, &c) to get your name out of there. The site says it takes a couple days to process the information when you request opt-out. (Note they didn’t ask if anyone wanted to opt-in.)

You might also limit your search to just your name (in case there is wrong data in their database).

What happens when Rightwingers shut down a campus event featuring unpopular speech of Liberal guests? Not sure if this is a good idea. Can’t stand either of them, but shutting them down invites retaliation, imho.

You do realize that (despite the headline that follows) the decision to shut down the event was actually made by the sponsors (a Republican students’ club) not the university, right? From the Sacramento Bee:

Protest shuts down event at UC Davis iwth Yiannopoulos, Shkreli

“It was the decision of the Davis College Republicans,” not the university, Andrew Mendoza, a first-year student and executive director of the club, said in a phone interview.

Mendoza said club members and police officers were worried about the potential for people to get hurt, including the possibility that demonstrators might use heavy objects to break the glass leading into the lecture hall. […]

Despite his claim about concerns over violence:

Earlier reports of violence were unfounded, the university said.

“Despite some reports, there were no broken windows or other property damage during the protest,” the statement said. “Earlier in the evening, one person was arrested inside the venue. No further arrests were made.” […]

If you read the full article I linked to, you’ll see that the chancellor issued a statement defending the right of those with unpopular views to be heard.

This is why, if at all possible, I never judge a story based on just a single reporter’s account of what happened. FWIW, the author of the HuffPo piece, Andy Campbell, worked for the NY Daily News before moving there.
